Best Winter Tire Sizes for E92 M3

Does anyone have any experience with the best winter tire sizes for a 2013 E92 M3? Currently I live in Alberta, Canada (lots of snow, very icy most of the time) and currently have 245 40ZR 18 for the fronts and 265 40ZR18 summer tires for the rears. What is the best size/brand to use for winters and should it all be one size for all 4 tires or different sizes again for front and rear?

I apologize if this question has been answered before.

Thank you!

I've always heard great things about Blizzaks, and since you already are running 18s you should be able to find more sizes to fit the M3 rather than the 19s.

Edit: sorry thought the link was strictly for winter setups, but I cant find the one I was thinking about. But you cant go wrong with the Blizzaks for snow/ice.

I run 255/40/18 and 235/40/18 snows on the stock wheels in NH and bought lighter and wider Apex ARC8 18x10.5 and 18x9.5 for summer tires. I use performance snow tires because they handle better and are higher speed rated but they are not as good in the snow. Serious snow tires handle poorly and are rated for lower speeds but do better in snow. Whichever way you go, a little narrower than stock is better for snow.

For Alberta, I’d go with the hard core snow tires and just give up handling for the winter. Maybe 225 or 235 width. I would even consider studded snows if you can get them in 18s.

I'm running a square set of 235/40/18 for the Winter (max. 2-3 month).

Pirelli, Dunlop, Michelin - they all offer a really good Winter tire, at least here in Europe.

Had Bridgestone Blizzaks on a couple of cars, good choice for heavy winters indeed.

I've used Blizzak, hakkapellitas and Sottozero's. Currently using 225/40r19 and 255/35r19 Sottozero 3 RFs on 220Ms for winter since I need to clear F80 Brembos. Haven't had a run in with deep snow but they handle well in normal winter mix conditions.
