I can't watch the video right now, but yeah, I know that Leno's piece was the main source of the rumor. Plus, as others have pointed out, at the original release, Ford had said that there was an additional surprise to be revealed later.

I am still skeptical that the details will be as stated above by trahsub. I could see it being 8000 RPM though. The thing is, what will the stipulations be? The mere fact that this is supposedly going to be a special ECU tune rather than just having it be the default stock one, suggests to me that there will be restrictions about using it. Hopefully I am wrong.

If this is a Mustang Limited Edition thingy, shouldn't they go against the M3 Limited Edition thingy; The M3 GTS ! now that would be a challenge...but when you put a standard M3 against a HUGELY Factory modified Mustang, things just don't make sense<<I'm saying this because after seeing the Mustang GT comparison, I felt a bit insecure bout the outcome with the Boss

You do make me wonder about potential Mustang ring times though. I would not be surprised if the Boss LS was genuinely capable of < 8 minutes. Of course I doubt we will ever see it tested (or any other Mustang for that matter).

The ring is not their bogey. They specifically say they are gunning for beating the M3 time at Laguna Seca with the Laguna Seca edition. Given it has track tires, brakes, suspension, special track aero bits and a free reving V8 with slightly less weight- I think they can rest assured they will beat the M3 at Laguna.

At the ring, that's a different story with more suspension travel required to lay down good times (bumpier track for sure) and I would think that the LS edition will have more trouble there with the solid rear axle than at other places. But who knows...

+1 - took the words right out of my mouth...

I've read that BMW recommends running the softest EDC setting at the Ring - I tried it and the car was fine, but I did't like the excessive movement of the car. I'm still not convinced they are 100% right, but who knows they may be onto something.

But I don't think that live axles and rock hard suspensions do well over there... (Plus if you guys checked out how much a Mustang costs over in Europe you'd probably be surprised).

well if we take the recent test of the 5.0L, we can expect the regular boss to match or beat the M3 as well.

+1!

With the mustang GT coming EXTREMELY close to beating the m3 on the track, the regular Boss 302 will surely beat the m3 in the track for sure. I will not even get into the M3 VS the Boss 302 LS. This is where the M3 GTS should come in. Motortrend should do a review between the Boss 302 LS and the M3 GTS. 440 hp on the Boss VS 444 hp on the GTS. That would be a good match up for sure.

Would be an interesting test. However, likely never happen, unless MAYBE top gear does it by importing an LS. Chances our without someone importing a GTS to the US, or and LS to Europe, we'll likely never see that matchup. Could be wrong though, maybe someone should write to Top Gear to do that very thing.

Oh, sorry. That would make the GTS look so pathetic that you have to spend $160k or $40k to get similar performance and even better luxury with the Mustang as the GTS is a stripper.

i believe the GTS has a weight advantage of (400lbs less)
the regular boss weights 30lbs more that a GT, take away the back seat and add a cross brace. the Ls isn't that much lighter, but then again we need to expect more from a 100k+ M3.

maybe the American Top gear can.(if it doesn't FAIL)

Top gear wont give them a fair comparison

I guess we m3 owners need to accept reality, which is the new 5.0 mustang GT has stepped up the plate. A little tweak with the mustang's suspension and I pretty much might be seeing it's tailights on the track...

I know it's hard for me to accept coz I paid almost $70K for my car and now a $40K car comes in and it almost beats my car in performance.

My brother might be getting the new mustang GT sometime this year, so I would have to see for myself if it is up to par with the m3.

I do think it is absolutely possible, yes. That's up to 11 seconds behind - still a significant amount.

You could very well be correct there. Still, I'd love to see it run.

Saw the Jay Leno video, that exhaust on the LS is so bad ass. Reminded me of a friend who had a 62 Impala w/ a 409ci with dumps. Gets your attention.

Boss 302 Priced

From autoblog

Quote:
Ford has yet to officially release pricing for the 2012 Mustang Boss 302, but a forum member over at TheMustangSource.com with some inside information has revealed that the special edition pony car will retail for $40,995 including destination and delivery. This places the Boss 302 almost squarely in the middle between the Mustang GT and the Shelby GT500.

While certain things like a navigation system won't be available, Boss 302 customers will have a few options to choose from. Recaro seats and a Torsen differential adds $1,995, an Accessory Package with floor mats and car cover go for an extra $475, and Yellow Blaze Tri-Coat paint is an additional $495. The track-oriented Laguna Seca Package comes in at a grand total of $47,990.

At first we weren't sure about the complete accuracy of the information, but a representative at Ford has confirmed these numbers and options
