Is it true all M mode cars come with MDM? if so, can someone please help me figure out how to turn is on??

Hi not all cars come with mdm, but if you have it in the i drive menu and you have the m button, then you should be able to turn it on by pressing the m button, if you have specified the mdm in in the i drive menu....

No expert here, that can help me out with this one?

I don't believe that this is a matter of the pump not being able to deliver the "stiffer servotronic sport feeling". Remember, the stiffer steering is from LESS assist - the more assist, the easier the steering wheel is to move. It might be some other type of coding or programming issue causing this problem. We can adjust the servotronic steering tightness in any M3, whether it is equipped with M-Drive or not.

Is that feature coding or Ecu coding to do that?

Ecu tuning. There are multiple servotronic maps based on couple/sedan/vert, and comfort/sport/non-Mdrive car for a total of 9.

I really hope, i'll find the solution here. So far two coder claimed that they could code the mdm here in switzerland. The second coder checked the work from the first one, said everything was coded correctly, claimed he had coded everything again from scratch, but the servotronic switch to sport does not work. The second coder told me, i need a stronger power steering pump. If this could be solved without installing an additional part, i'd be more than happy.

So how to solve this issue? I have another meeting on Thursday with the coder, who "installed" the MDM on my M3. What must be done in order for the servotronic to switch to sport mode and become stiffer?

My M3 E92 is a manual trasmission with software stand Nov. 2009.

Or can someone here remotely help me out?

Regards

Stefan

Had the BPM retrofit installed on mine within the last few weeks. Very happy with it - definitely worth doing imo.

Need help here guys. Purchased a used "SZL" from an MDM equipped M3 — as pictured in the two posts below. I took the care for a drive after I did the hardware swap and can't remember if the buttons on the steering wheel worked or not. Had all the crazy dsc etc warnings pop up. Had MDM retrofit coding done tonight. No error messages and and the options are there but the steering wheel buttons don't work. Coding guy says the "SZL" May be shot - ribbon may have been damaged from spinning it while locked. One pic below has a red cover on it and the other doesn't. I assume the red cover is to prevent spinning?

Can anyone chime in and let me know if the ribbon thing seems right? I can try to swap out the top piece off my original SZL as that part seems interchange.

Thoughts? Help!

Hans, got your SZL here and it's going out today. you should receive it on Thursday or Friday. I included the coding cable and DVD as well. Sending tracking information to your email.

Looking forward to working with you early September when I am back in the US, and doing the first remotely programmed M-Drive/MDM retrofit!

Update for others: Figured out how to re-calibrate the steering angle sensor remotely, so it appears that a full retrofit from afar is possible!

Disregard. I swapped out the piece that contains the ribbon. All buttons work. MDM successfully retrofitted.

For those guys want self Code it:
NCS-Expert

1. Change VO to add $2MD in CAS & NFRM (NFRM updates FRM automatically) [modules that store the VO] using NCS Expertmode (Read VIN & VO, Update VO with $2MD, Write VO to ECU's using FA_WRITE) - <F1><F3><F2><F6><F4><F2>FA_WRITE<F3> for each of the 3 modules.

2. Process car using NCS Expertmode to set factory defaults for updated VO (Read VIN & VO, Process Car) <F1><F3><F6><F3>Process Car<F1>Code Car.

If stuck on most2 just Code all other modules with clear man file

Ediabas:

3. Reset steering angle sensor using Tool32 DSC_87.prg lenkwinkel_dsc_abgleichen.
4. Reset any faults using INPA <F9> E90 Functional Jobs <F4> <F2> Clear Error Memory.

Done with k+d-can cable just few minutes ago

Radio Source Change inhibit

Anyone figure out how to inhibit the M button also causing the radio to change sources?
I know I could just turn the radio off, but that is just a terrible patch to a nearly perfect retrofit.

Nope. Somewhat recently on a different thread, somebody was talking up how they were going to figure it out since it is so simple. Of course it never materialized.

If you have retrofitted MDM then you would be the first person (on the interwebs) to not have the button also change the stereo source.

Just finished the retrofit, big thanks to douba, rhouck and S14turbo for their great tutorials and information.

Took maybe 2hrs including coding and hardware and calibration.
All done by myself at home on a 2008 M3 without iDrive.

And yup, the M button changes the radio audio source as expected and unwanted.
I read in another forum that there is a parameter to change on iDrive cars to disable this behavior. Unfortunately the variable doesn't exist on non-iDrive cars it seems.
