Engine oil leak after RB service?
I searched...but am still asking for some opinions here. I had an RB service done a few weeks back and just noticed now a small oil leak. The car has been parked outside or at the airport from Monday to Friday so it's first night in the garage yielded a few drops.
I looked in the engine bay area and did not see any leaks from the suspect area's. I am thinking it is the crank seal which maybe suspect but very hard to tell unless I pull the air box and fan. The bottom oil pan area from the top view down does look like some fresh oil is there. Anybody with experience having to replace the crank seal? How big of a job is that? I doubt very much this is a simple drain plug leak as I had new ones put on when the RB was done. Appreciate any guidance/input.

Sometimes oil drains into the starter engine gear at the back of the engine and then leaks slowly. This is not an actual leak though and will disappear soon

I hope it's something like that, figuring I will have to crawl under the car to find the source. I hate trouble shooting oil leaks, there not always obvious and I am slightly concerned it's the crank. I had removed my Active pulley and put the stock OEM on along with the belt that came off when the pulley was removed. It looked perfectly fine but blew a few days later and turned into spaghetti wrapping itself around the crank pulley. It was a brutal getting it off, everything spun fine but I thought about it as it was getting put back together, now I see drips of oil #mindgames on myself.

Yeah, mine dripped a bit cause a little oil ran into the transmission bell housing when I took the pan off. Keep an eye on it and if it does not go away very soon, get it looked at.

right now we are all guessing. you need to get that thing on a lift and take the skid plate off. did the rb change include an oil pan gasket? did they re-use the old one?
can you get eyeballs on your drain plugs?

Could be they screwed up and the gasket went on out of position.
Could be left over oil from when the Pan was off. Could be leaking from somewhere else unrelated. Instead of guessing. Have it checked. |

Yes, dropping the shield and pan tomorrow to inspect, was just seeking input.

Dropped the shield and it appears to be the gasket leaking. Cleaned it up and will need to take it to my indy shop for a better inspection on the lift. Weird it found it's way right to the front to drip but there is definitely a leak.

You put in new plugs, but did you replace the oil pan gasket? I never had any oil leaking whatsoever after my RB Service.

Ah, when I ordered my kit I ordered the gasket with it. The Indy should have replaced it when they were in there first.

It depends on how they did replaced. We DIYed mine with Daniel & Nikki & Trevor, there was not a single drip after the process done. But as Nikky and Trevor mentioned here those are the right points to check!

Sorta a bind situation either way
- If gasket didn't seat properly or gasket sealer wasn't used (if in fact leak is from the pan...) What to do? Hard to expect an Indy to eat cost of dropping oil pan over again to redo gasket. Yes! That's the RIGHT thing to do. But how would that work? Evident something was not done 100%. But expect guarantee shop will eat labor for gasket redo. Bet 95% would make every excuse to dodge that responsibility. Hope your situation gets resolved honorably! |

It was all resolved, it was a new gasket installed, sh$t happens. They replaced and did my diff fluid change and replaced all bulbs, shampooed the engine (top and bottom), no charge.

i would speculate it is possible to drop the pan just enough to slip a gasket in there.
