granted the manual trans on the M3 will have a different feel compared to a 1990 Civic, but at least you'd learn the basics...

Lol my first car was a 2008 S5...and I got it in 6 speed with very little clue how to drive it, yet I drove it home myself stalling 2-3 times and that's how I learned

As other people have probably already recommended by now, you need to test drive both the MT and the DCT. They are different experiences, and no one here can tell you definitively that one is better or worse. I personally find the DCT to be a hoot when you really want to have a 'spirited' drive, but it has the added convenience of being clutchless for those nasty commutes, or when you need to fiddle around in the car (I never use full auto)
