Fan Not Blowing Air

So I'm starting this thread to help or inform anyone that is having issues with their A/C or heat not working (specifically the fan not blowing). I'll update this as I get more photos and info, so bear with me.

Background: Toward the end of last summer I started experiencing issues with the fan either not blowing air or working intermittently. Everything else (digital display) was working properly and I got no errors. However, I noticed that this would occur specifically when it was a hot day or my car had been sitting in the sun directly. When it was working and I decided to turn the A/C off and keep the fan running on the lowest setting, there would be a delay and the fan would stay on the highest setting for a bit.

Anyway, this past week it completely died. No errors, nothing. The fan just wouldn't blow. Searching the forums gave me results ranging from the fan motor, regulator, battery draining, cabin filters, etc. So I decided to open it up and see what the problem was and this is what I found...

Removing the passenger lower foot well panel revealed this green residue from where the wire harness is plugged into the blower regulator



Once unplugged I could smell burnt electrical and saw that one of the holes was slightly melted



I then removed the blower unit to gain access to blower regulator (part: 64119265892) and saw that one of the prongs had been badly burnt



The housing revealed what looked as if someone took a lighter and tried melting it. Luckily this did not cause a fire



You can see where the prong was burnt so bad that the solder was gone and the prong was loose



Ordering online resulted in a cost ~$100. Called around several dealerships and prices ranged from ~$135 to $185

I have now ordered the "blower regulator" online and am waiting for the part to arrive. My concern, however, is if it will work with the existing plug from the wire harness or if I'll have to do some electrical work by stripping the wire and reconnecting it since it appears the copper is showing through the brown wire?

Searched on realoem, but could not locate if this plug was sold by itself or part of a harness. Anyone happen to know the part number? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

You will need to repair the "Brown" ground wire and connector. The hints in the thread will be worth your time.

My car: February 2008 E90 M3.

Symptom: No blower (fan) at all.

Troubleshooting: I removed the panel underneath the glovebox, found the screws securing the resistor pack to the blower fan assembly, and removed.

(the resistor pack is item #2 in the picture)

The fix: One thing that no one mentioned (that I could see) was where to get the parts. I got the parts from Pelican parts.


You will still need to get primary wire, soldier, an iron, and some heat shrink. I bought a variety pack and picked the best size.
