How extensive is the gutting? When you say the car is 3570 with you in it, how much gas is in the car? Curious what the no-driver-no-fuel weight is.
Almost all interior is gone except electrical harness (would be another ~15lbs).
Tank is full when I go onto track in order to have good front/rear balance.
So car is at ~3575lbs when I come back from track... (with me 200lbs.).

The car looks fantastic. I'm curious - Your race class limits you to 3570 - with your net weight being 3370 without driver. That weight seems really high considering how gutted your car is. How much ballast did you need to add back?

I'm at 3350 with 1/2 tank of gas, all carpet, dash, door panels, AC, heat, stereo and communications in place, GTS cage and seat delete, gutted trunk and gutted sound deadening in rear seat area. I also deleted my wipers and washer reservoir. Based on your build I would expect your car to be closer to 3000 to 3100 lbs.

I think we have to assume the goal is to stay in TT3. Otherwise, given the effort on this build, I would expect the car to be quite a bit lighter. Being NA and not having a full cage.....this car could get down to sub-2900lbs, but then you'd basically get dumped straight into TT1.....I'm guessing you'd see some super stiff competition.

Agreed. I'm curious how much ballast was added back to get to his current weight. How much does your e90 weigh?

Did you gut your interior and carpet? Full cage or 1/2?

Yes, around ~3120lbs is correct. I gutted everything I can from the front (no wipers&motors , every steel bolt, fan and AC , seals etc), and added weight (via gas) and ballast of at least >130lbs back into the rear (with OEM large battery for cross weight!). Plus the aero stuff is around ~40lbs.
The E92 M3 is a TT3 car and due to its nature can't really seriously compete in TT2/TT1.

No carpets, my half cage (6p bolt-in) is perfect.
A full cage would add another ~60lbs to the front (but is needed when you want to do wheel to wheel racing!)

That's exactly the problem.
I can hop into a C6 Z06 bone stock and do sub 2min lap times at VIR.
At the end of the day the E92 M3 is a very fast family hauler

Mine is fully gutted, including sound deadening, heater/AC core, doors have been gutted to the bare skin. It's a tin can in there aside from the dash which has also been gutted and the center console. I kept them in simply because I like how it looks.

Car has a full cage.

(My build thread shows a bunch of pics and lists all the details of the car on the first post: https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1158445 )

Yup. The supercharger helps that problem. Adding around 100lbs to the car to gain 200whp goes a long way to putting you back in the running.

I was noodling around on the NASA TT Class calculator. if I've done my homework correctly, I believe I can just squeeze into TT1 right under the 6.0:1 cutoff. You know what I think saves me? Don't laugh------I have a sedan and you can add +0.2 point for a 4-door production car....hahahaha!

I remember speaking with you 1.5 years ago about your build and epic time at the Glen. Love the build and the perseverance towards your goal. I will be placing an order for the seat base. Im 6ft1 and need to sit lower myself and you created a great piece!
Cannot wait for you to be Sub 2 at WGI. Headed there in Oct to redeem myself from 1.5 months ago as my DCT was over heating like a mofo. Started with 2:10, 2:09, 2:08. Then LIMP......I stress to all who have a DCT...check all the seals on the trans especially the hard to see area on the very top. Had to get mine dropped to freshen her up.

looks like its just heat jacket that is cut with velcro sewn into it. looks like he's pretty handy at making stuff, likely custom.
is there a huge need for this? less maintenance? did these solve a problem that happened in the past?

Those joints are greased (and/or have plastic inserts) and the heat -so close to the rotors- is not good.
Specifically when you have a red flag and have to come to a complete stop on track with red hot rotors!
Joints were bone dry.
I just bought a heat shield for steel braided oil hoses that you can wrap around hoses (with the Velcro) and I cut a hood out of it. Never had an issue again.
All the online race parts distributors have it, get a shield for a large hose.
Thanks!

Awesome thanks. I plan to install braking cooling and the new backing plate leaves the rotor exposed to the tie rod end. I'd like to give it a little heat protection.

Following along. Have a gutted E92 shell I'll be building up. Not really sure what body or class I'll be heading in to, but the process is the fun part for me.

Flat bottom is a must if you want a functional diffuser.
We developed and built that in-house.
Thanks

Agreed.
But you also have that for sale.
so a potential customer, me?, would want to know what it means to mount your creation on ones own car.

make sense?

Update on Time Trial racer E92 M3

For the 2019 season (TT and ST3) I did a lot of upgrades.
A full cage was on the list w/o adding too much weight in unwanted spots.
So I took the entire harness out and stripped it by 24lbs! Lots of work...
Name: electrical harness.jpg
Views: 574
Size: 409.1 KB

We build the full cage in our shop and it came out beautiful. TIG welded and only added 38lbs.
Name: New full cage.jpg
Views: 558
Size: 167.8 KB
I stripped everything I can..
Name: full cage 2.jpg
Views: 592
Size: 235.1 KB

To get weight distribution correct the glass had to go so we installed lexan window. Took around 18lbs off vs. OEM.
Name: Lexan windshield.jpg
Views: 546
Size: 212.5 KB

Interior fits like a glove..
Name: interior.jpg
Views: 557

Had 1st event at VIR 2 weeks ago in TT and ST3 and car ran ok (2:01.30). Car is much stiffer and I need to tweak MCS to get it right...
Total fun to drive!
