The long wait is over.

Not the best photos, I'll do better at the weekend.

Hi Mate. Overall the DCT is good, It's early days yet, but I have noticed the low speed 15mph down shifts are a bit rough, and I would prefer the car crept at very low speed, having to give it a bit of gas to move, makes parking a bit nerve racking. Where I garage it, I have to nudge right up to the back wall, if I stop short, I have to apply throttle two inches from the wall. But it's very smooth through the gears, much improved over the first DCT car I tested.

How many miles you clocked on your present car Mate?

Hi Del

The way the DCT box works takes a bit of time to adapt to but you will get there in the end - it makes a huge difference on what settings you have the gearbox set to.

I mainly use mine in S mode as a manual (ie: use the paddles or gearlever to shift up/down) so I decide what gear the car is in rather than let the car do it. I have this set to the S5 so you get the throttle blips on downshifts and the fastest shift speed. I find exiting roundabouts etc much better when shifting down myself as the car sometimes chooses a gear that is too low or too high.

However when pootling around in traffic I knock it into D mode and use it like an auto. When it is set to D1 the car pulls away in second gear and I find this a little easier when trying to inch forward in tight spaces.

M button is set to S5, M-Dynamic, sport throttle, etc.... (ie: all at max fun )

Also dont try to reverse with the drivers door not fully shut - it knocks itself back into neutral.

Mine has recent software on it and it is much improved over the first lot where the lag issues would come into play.

I would say parking and slow speed manoevres is the DCT's downfall but the operation of the gearbox other than that MORE than makes up for it - at least it's not an SMG, Jeez they are even harder work!!

Only clocked up 7000 miles on my current car Del -had it just over a year but i've spent a lot of time away on courses during that time and then 6 months over here by Oct, i think this is the reason i want another M3, still have an itch to scratch!! Car still smells and looks brand new - seems a shame to change it as i've had zero issues but i've been offered a deal that i can't decline!

Glad you generally like the DCT - don't want to sound patronising but i assume you know about the 'low speed assistant'?? - very lightly tap the accelerator and the car will start to creep like a regular automatic.

Yes mate, I tried it last night,it's just that blipping when you're 3 inchs from the garage wall

I prefer the way the DCT worked in my 335i, it just crept like an normal auto. Butit's still early days yet, I'm sure I'll adjust.

I've got all this to look forward to. I've only just started to explore the possibilities. Which is good, because it feels like a different car to me.

Ta for the heads-up.

You don't actually have to blip the throttle, a light tap will do.
My garage is very tight too...I tend to have it creep forward using the assist while holding it back with light pressure on the brake.

Maybe I haven't mastered the technique yet, I will practice on a soft target

Be good to read your comparison once you've had time to familiarise yourself.

Will you be adding the bigger carbon spoiler and front splitters? Would look great on white.

I was out for a rare blast by myself last night and had the EDC in 'sport'. Definately better than 'normal' for b road fun at high speed.

The most pleasing addition to this car over the last for me is the EDC. In particular the comfort or normal mode. It makes driving over or rotten UK road sooo much more enjoyable.
