Had an oil analysis done before xmas .... copper readings are at 8ppm :\ Time for bearings I guess.

Swinging towards BE Bearings with OEM rod bolts

I changed my oil after 14k km and 15 months on the weekend and posted the sample on Monday. It would be an interesting analysis. My previous oil change interval was 15k km. Interestingly though, I didn't have to top up my oil this time. Usually I top it up twice between changes. Does this mean the bearing clearance has normalised and not burning oil any longer?

Attached my oil report. Got a mate bringing me BE shells + BE ARPs back from USA ... their shipping prices are ridiculous ($200+)

Nope OEM bearings but my E90 has only done 60,000kms, of which I've been the owner for 10,000.

Mark, How did you come to the conclusion that it was time to undertake rod bearing swap? does your copper reading significantly exceed the expected average levels for 60k milage m3?

Not owned it long or don't get to drive it much (or both)

Good kms! You will be surprised how much wear, I had mine done at 50k and there was plenty of wear.

I ran my previous oil for 12k km and had 13 ppm and Copper 3 ppm. At the time the engine had 65,659 km. As I said before I have run a bit longer! Awaiting analysis.

It is quite a high reading compared to others tests posted in the numerous threads around the place.

I will take photos of mine when they come out just have to wait for a mate to fly back end of the month with my bearings.

How long was the OIC for the first sample?
Looks like the oil was changed recently when you bought the vehicle?

Have you considered a sample at 5,000km's or an oil change rather than waiting 2 years or until the TBN/TAN was completely knackered?

Just curious, thanks.

No oil test when I bought the car, put fresh fluids in when it arrived, did 5000kms (55000km odo) and changed oil, did another 5000kms (60000km odo) and did oil test attached. Does that answer what you wanted to know?

UOA states 9,000km OIC but you are doing 5,000km OIC - great, thanks.

Yeah, with new bearings I will probably go to 7500km OIC but I wanted 5000 with new fluids to flush, then then next 5000 for a proper oil sample using my preferred oil.

With those TBN/TAN numbers you believe the oil can sustain a longer OIC?

It was a beautiful morning today and it made me want to go for a drive! So... I wondered if anyone might fancy going for a cruise in the next few weeks?

Curious on what your thoughts could be..!
I'm reaching 100k in my 2009 on original bearings with oil change soon, and will start looking at trends over the next 24 months with oil analysis..
