I lost all respent when tehy were to cheap to carry BMW v8's anymore and chose to run the Ford/Jag v8. Its a shame because the trucks are so hot to look at. Too bad the supercharged version is SLOWER than the regualar V8 X5 and does not handle anywhere near as good. The looks are killer on all models though.

Seems like there are a lot of spoiled kids in the world that see all vehicles as needing to be brand new sports cars or they are crap. Buncha haters that really don't know much beyond "look at the mad tite rimz I bought for my 335, yo!"

Rangies did git a bad reputaion for reliability, but so do older BMWs. In fact, cars like my 7 series are considered cars to avoid as used by all sorts of different publications, and yet mine has been very reliable, and fun. So take what you read with a grain of salt. Yes, we all can say that we had a friend's brother's uncle that had one and it was a raging POS, but that's mostly hearsay, and usually the owner was some idiot that HAD to have their vehicle fixed at some dealer that raped them every time they showed up with a light bulb out...

Besides my 740iL, I'm on my third Range Rover. The first was an '88 SWB that was a killer offroad rig (seriously, forget jeeps and hummers and the like, these are where it's at offroad, just like their older siblings in the Land Rover lineup). I just sold my '96 County LWB, (which was the last of the classic bodystyle):

This was also an excellent offroader, and it was also my "work truck" using it to haul lumber and tow my camping trailer all over the east coast for the last few years. It was also more reliable than my BMWs have been.

The reason I sold it? Because I just picked up its replacement:

A 4.6 HSE. This is also going to be a tow vehicle, and last night, I carried home a few hundred bucks worth of lumber (2x4s, 2x6s, and a 6x6 post). So if people see it driving clean with just me in it, they really don't understand what it DOES get used for. Just because I also like to keep my cars clean has nothing to do with what they do or don't get used for...

And I've seen the newer HSEs and sports used offroad to good effect, as well, and in a couple years, we'll probably upgrade to one of the newer ones as they depreciate into the toilet.

Yeah, I only get 19 mpg in my HSE, and only got 16 in the Classic (but it also got 16 while towing, so that shoudl count for something), but even at $4/gallon for fuel, I'd only spend $20 a week commuting if I used it to commute in.

These are great rigs, and I don't think I'll ever be without one in the stable.

I had one like that!! It was a '91, red on tan cloth. It had a lower guard with the same Hella lights, dog bar (not sure of the exact name), mud flaps, and it had a white horse with a rider painted on the back. I thought the wheel centers with the spinning center was really cool at the time

RR have a reputation for a reason. Dont believe me, just go to the RR forums. Even the owners acknowledge the horrible reliability, but enjoy the car for other reasons.

Yes, they love gas, but they love dirt and rocks... and can pretty much go anywhere. Also, every time I get behind the wheel of a Rover I feel special... and there's an amazing build quality as well. The fit and finish is amazing and the interior quality is without a doubt above any car in the price range.
i agree, i felt amazing behind the wheel of my range

Just like classic BMW owners.

And just like older BMWs, they really aren't as bad as people tend to make out.
