Passenger-Seat-Occupancy-Mat-Bypass

I've been having the Passenger restraint system malfunction for the past year and found this online.

I used this one. Worked like a charm! Took 5 minutes to install.

Correct. It will deploy with or without passenger in an accident. The reason why they have the occupancy mat is so save the expensive to replace dash in an accident when its not needed to deploy.

Does "passenger restraint system malfunction" only mean the seat sensor is malfunctioning though, or are there other potential problems?

Interesting on the dash theory. I always thought the passenger mat (weight sensor) was to detect children/child seats etc. so it won't deploy and potentially kill them?

The sensor is only there to trigger the seat belt warning and to switch the airbag on. The airbag will deploy regardless of weight if someone is buckled in. So even if a child is buckled in, the airbag will deploy. In some countries, the cars equipped with a on/off key switch that lets you turn the airbag off for having a child in the front.

Here's a video and a picture showing the location of the switch in a bmw.
