Mixing (Y) and Y speed rating tires?
Picked up some new 10" and 11" wheels for my '09 092 M3...wanted to try out the Falken FK510 tires to see how well they do...my M3 is a daily driver and i'm not pushing it to extremes very often, if at all...i do value handling, ride quality and sound...at the price, i thought it would be "interesting" to see how they handle compared to the Michelin PSS...
Going with Dave's recommendation of 275/30r19 on the front and 295/30r19 on the rear... The Falken 275/30r19 are (Y) rated - 186+ and the 295/30r19 are Y rated - up to 186... I have read not to mix speed ratings, but wondering how this applies to (Y) and Y...both tires should have stiff side walls - so not thinking there's a huge noticeable difference...any advice? I could put the 305/30r19 on the rear which are (Y) - 186+ rated...but would prefer to go with 295... |

It's risky but try not to exceed 185 MPH just to be extra safe with some margin.
