next hpde

Got my first on Saturday. I’m just gonna take drinks and snacks. Torque wrench. And a bin to empty all the crap out of the car. Anything else I need? I know this has been beat to death. Did a bunch of upgrades already for the future. Running Better brake fluid and such. figure I will go and figure it out from there.

Yeah I think it’s mandatory, which is great. More help the better. Got a feeling I’m about to go down a rabbit hole though, lol

Hookers (or strippers) and booze for after the event. You're going to need it.

Don't forget a camping chair. An ez up is a great investment as well.

Don't eat lunch.
kills the 1st snd 2nd sessions after lunch and make you sleepy.

I typically eat an apple or two and call it good.

Dinner feels great!

Yes. Yes, you are. A good heroin habit would probably be cheaper!

Bring a good attitude and open mind. Understand that you aren't as good a driver as you think you are. And remember to have fun!

Well I think I will have a long time before I can outdrive the car I’m looking forward to it for sure. Good idea on the chair. I think I have the car upgraded for now, just going to spend a bunch of money on seat time, and hookers and booze. I normally don’t eat lunch during the day anyways so I’ll bring some snacks. Thanks for the tips everyone.

From a non-"stuff" perspective, from an instructor's perspective, your first track day should involve learning how to drive safely on the track.

Going fast is a few days down the road. There are rules and protocols to learn as far as passing, what to do if you have mechanical problems, understanding the flags, etc. The car will feel different driving at track speeds than on the street, and learning how it feels will be important as you get going faster.

You should have an instructor your first few days (depending on the clubs you are running with). The instructor is there to make sure you are safe, learn the specific track, and can manage traffic. Once he or she is comfortable you can handle those three items, then you can work on learning how the car behaves and how the dynamics change the faster you go.

Make sure you are doing a walk around of the car after every session, including checking brakes.

When I go to the track these days, its more like a traveling circus. We usually have at least 6 cars, 3 duallys with 35' gooseneck trailers, sometimes a bus to sleep on and more canopies than I can count. Its a bit ridiculous, really

Don't forget the blow - will help you power through the afternoon sessions if you skip lunch...

Run them. If you go off you will likely get stuck in the gravel. You won't be able to get out of your car on a hot track, and the tow guy will just hook onto anything sturdy.
