Adamsville, TN, Crump, TN, Friendship, TN are just a few towns right off the top of my head that will give anybody a ticket for 1mph over. Famous speed-trap tpwns.
My hometown? Four pages on this site speaks for itself. https://www.speedtrap.org/tennessee/jackson/

Doesn't work like that in Cali.... they set your court date according to the issuing officers court day...you can get an extension but it will still be set according to the officers scheduled court day. If you're lucky they'll be on vacation.

But a ticket for 5 mph over should be thrown out of court regardless if he shows up...that's ridiculous and have a hard time believing a cop actually wrote a ticket for 4 mph over

I got pulled over for doing 17mph over speed limit in SoCal, Cop gave me a warning. He was more interested in checking out the car.

thats too bad. had two tickets a while back that i beat with the "reschedule to the least likely time to show up" strategy.

That's VA. Doesn't count. The cops are crazy there.

Yikes. In upstate ny..they consistently let you go 15 over the limit on the highway ..10 over on the streets.

Lucky where I live as if you are unfortunate to get a speeding ticket, they will always plea bargain with you. For the past decade, I've had every speeding ticket changed to a parking ticket with small fine and no points.

You ain't lying. I got 5 tickets in 5 years. Most of them in my Porsche or Taurus SHO but the big one (reckless 75 in a 55) was in my 1966 Mustang. I was in the Navy and driving on an expired Florida license so none of them ever stuck, which was nice but they sure did hoover my wallet.

Funny thing was, I had a friend with a 3000gt vr4 and another with an Eclipse GSX and we would run up the interstate doing 140mph probably way too often but I would get BS 57 in a 55 tickets. Thankfully really, jail time would've sucked in the military!!

Wow 5 over and they give you a ticket ?? I'd move.

Best thing to avoid tickets is a radar detector. A cheap beater helps too.

If you’re going to hire an attorney, do it right off the bat and have them handle everything. That’s what you pay them for. Let them decide how to fight the ticket. You’re not going to get the best advice asking us randos on the internet, unless someone here is the CEO of The Ticket Clinic

omg! lol Oh, I’m pretty sure your CO would have loved that. lmao

I got tagged merging onto one of the freeways from another and I came up on a all white Crown Vic or something similar. Windows not tinted. Nothing at all on or in the car. As I was passing the car I was thinking, maybe this is a cop. Yep. Got me 75 in 55, but told him I’m here on business & 1st time in VA. When he told me 75 is reckless I laughed and told him 75 in CA is normal traffic flow. So he gave me a break and wrote 74. I had to hire a lawyer who took care of it. Every visit after that I paid more attention and didn’t get another. I’m good at spotting unmarked cars, but this one was a total sleeper.

Well, he said that’s what he got the ticket for, not that he was going 5 over. Highly likely he was going faster and the officer wrote it lower just to be nice. I haven’t had ticket in years, but I remember this happening.

He was also doing 40 in a 25, probably in a residential or highly populated area. Do the math.

He was ticketed for going 30 over, why all this 5 mph talk? He admitted to 10 over. Do the math

So the OP starts out by asking how he can fight the ticket and the thread turns into..."This one time, in band camp..."

That's not how most CHP officers work. The majority are boy scouts who go by the book. It's important to be polite and respectful, but groveling isn't an effective strategy.

There are exceptions, though. I recently had a client cited for 104 mph and the CHP officer negotiated it down to 99... which saved the client from a license suspension and made him eligible for traffic school, which kept the citation off his driving record.

The 5 MPH over was truly a 70MPH ticket in a 65 zone and the 4 was 4 over in a 65 zone 69 MPH (my favorite number BTW). The 30 MPH was in a 65 zone.I think anyway.. By the time I was pulled over, 20 miles later, I had no f-ing clue where I was clocked by the plane. I wasn't provided an exact location.

1-3 word answers to police. Never admit anything. NEVER admit or accept guilt OR apologize. Get an attorney. Go to court. Good luck.

Best lines? "I understand" "I'm not sure" "Thank you officer"

Where did I say "grovelling". Cops know what you did wrong, many have made up their mind if you're getting a ticket before they even get out of their car. about 90% of people stopped will try to say they have no idea why they were stopped. Trust me, you're not fooling anyone especially the cop. I've always said "I haven't seen it all but not much surprises me". Your BS about what's the problem officer is wasted words, unless you don't have a clue why you were stopped which might be the case if your tail lights aren't working, but if it's a moving violation you know what you've done. I'm not suggesting saying FUCK YA I WAS FLYING.....but how about sorry officer, I was going a bit fast. Do you think you could give me a break please.

With regard to CHP being boy scouts, they are traffic men....they are the same everywhere whether State Police, Provincial Police or City Traffic cops. We had an expression: "I'd rather my sister was a whore than my brother in law a traffic man".....I have many friends that are/were traffic men. Boyscouts, yup but they could be reasoned with.

Don't argue what ever you do, try putting yourself in his or her boots and think what would work on you. But what do I know.....

I find apologizing for making the officer having to pull me over goes a long way.
