From my 48-hours exposure in an X3M, absolutely, S58 sounds leaps better than S55. While similar in some sense, the S58 lacks the lawnmower characteristics that I often use to describe the S55.

The next gen M3/4 with the S58 will be a 3 sec. 0-60 monster!!

Yup. First time I swapped pads on mine for the track this happened. I didn't know there was a critical sensor directly under the reservoir at the time so I cleaned up what I could see and went on with my life...Several weeks later my sensor went out at the track and some forum searching led me to this realization. Now I keep the reservoir level much lower.

For the diy, many will say it took hours but if you use the simple tools I used to replace the sensor (my post in the thread linked above lists them), you can get it done in 15min. If small hands maybe less.

X3MC's with the same S58 are running 3.3-3.4 0-60, stock!! The M3/4 with AWD and 500+ lbs. lighter, easily 3 flat. Tuned, we'll see 2.8-2.9 0-60's from the next gen M3's.

I had multiple failures on this job and a bunch of signs that should've hit a little harder. I was rushing and skipping things I'd normally do. I almost bed them in with the lug screws only hand tight. Then I went to torque them and realized when the car was rolling away that I had already removed the wheel chalks. I would much rather be in this situation then my car rolling out the garage smashing my wife's car or the neighbors house.

Parts are being overnighted from FCP. I'm not to concerned about the removal and replacement. I had that area torn apart last night to clean up the mess and it didn't seem to bad.

Live and learn.

Pretty easy job but when I'm up to speed and hit the brakes I hear a whirling type sound. Sort of like a jet engine shutting down as I slow down. It made the sound even before I bed them in. No pulling or vibration or anything out of the normal. Hoping it will go away in time.
Ouch, sounds like Brake Vacuum sensor is damage from brake fluid,....parts is like $135ish plus labor. Gluck

i was cruising at 83-85 mph on the freeway late at night
i got paced by a new looking Camaro that had pulled up alongside me 2 lanes away for a few seconds
then the Camaro gunned it and took off

i guess he wanted to play but i'm too old to be street racing
but i did enjoy hearing the car take off
sounded mean

I drove one of those during the MTown Tour, and I've never gotten that thing out of my head, even though I drove an M5C and M850 the same day. When the time comes and I find a CPO X3MC in the right color, no sunroof, and the top sound system, the X2 will get traded in for that ride.

After 6 BMWs most dealers kiss my butt when I get loaners, but they still generally stick to the lateral loaner or one step down, ie I drop the M3 get an M3, or drop my X2 and I get an X1. I'd really like to know how you got the X3MC out of them.

Been working 8 days in a row. 10hr shifts.

Brakes are squealing again. Kinda awkward when you're downtown and it happens but oh well. I'm sure it's probably the pads or something.

For my m2 I get an x1, x2, or 330i. I've hated all of them.

Used the m3 to move my GF and her cat in with me. I don't think the cat liked the V8.

where is the vacuum sensor located?
Buried directly below the front of the master cylinder.

$260 to have it shipped overnight from FCP. labor is on me as i'm the idiot who broke it so i should be the one to fix it. I'm a glutton for punishment.

its been an expensive moth for this car. brakes and rotors = $1300, tires = $1300 plus $200 for alignment and mounting, rod bearings = $2100. over $5,000 in one month. add the Throttle Actuators that I did last month for $1500. lol

I think I've owned about 25 cars now and am pretty sure if you combine all the maintenance on those cars its probably close to what the BMW cost in one month. i'm not complaining as i knew what i was getting into. i'm fortunate to be in the position were it doesn't hurt to bad, well at least until my wife finds the receipts. She told me to stay away from performance sports cars because the expense to maintain them outweighs the return. but the car will be good to go for a long time now.

in a pretty stupid spot under the driver side brake reservoir. you have to remove the cabin air filter "tray" to get at it.

My plan is to fabricate some sort of plastic shield to deflect fluid from reaching the sensor as i'm sure ill do it again because i don't learn from my mistakes.

There's a silver lining to this and that is you should be trouble free for quite a while now. Time to drive it like you stole it!

Yeah, but the car should be pretty set for a while. And let's be honest, we all got these cars because of the everyday enjoyment we get out of them. Not because they're eco friendly or easy on the pocket book.

Smiles per gallon. Not miles per gallon
