I was thinking something along these lines, and for the STI one, like an ///M right there would be pretty cool...

Hardly a custom button but I swapped the LEDs.

If you like the Red, you could paint the outer ring red and install a red LED. Not my taste but, that might look good.

I would like to fit the R35 GTR start button in.

I really like how it looks.

I'd be curious to see this actually, with or without the red ring, red LED could be interesting.

One great thing that I love, is how I can see it lit up from outside of the car. If you know the behavior of the start button, its always lit up when the car is not in "sleep mode". That amber was not as noticeable and is quite boring IMO. Blue is my favorite color so it only makes it more gratifying.

I'm not sure if I was the first to do this but, I could not find any instructions/DIY so I'll post up how I did it. Sorry I don't have more pictures!

First, I did not use the same "foot-print" of LED. The factory LED is a right angle so the light is directed forward out the front of the button. I replaced ALL of the LEDs throughout the car so this is what I had on hand. No big deal though.. I put some solder on the pads of the PCB, held the LED in place (on its side), and ran the soldering iron in a sweeping motion so it flowed onto the LED. Then did the other side of the LED. BTW, I used tweezers to hold the LED (a must when working with this small of an object.

The LED part number is: VLMB41P1Q2-GS08 Thats the blue color. Just search on DigiKey or Mouser for the part in the color you choose. I believe the foot print I used is called PLCC2. Of course, getting the LED with the right-angle is the correct way to go but, it doesn't matter.

Also, the blue LED requires slightly more voltage. To get this, I removed the small pull down resistor (There are two resitors next to each other.. its the smaller one). I would try it without removing it first. If it works, leave it. If not, remove it. (note: it is still installed in the picture)

Just did a quick search for Red..

Its tough to say what to purchase because there is like a billion options!

"mcd" (Millicandela) is your brightness and you want to pair it to have about the same as everything else. I cant tell ya what to get but here is where I would start. Its about the same mcd as the blue I have.
http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...27-1-ND/469930

These things are so cheap that I would also get the following as it has a higher mcd.
http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...7-1-ND/1636306

These also have the correct foot-print for the Start button!

There are options to go with much less mcd and there are super bright ones too.. its a little trial and error!

All you have to do is pull the trim piece out enough to get your hand behind it, unclip the wires, then squeeze the clips that hold the button in if I remember correctly. You can do it in one minute if you know how...

Probably a no-go, but curious if by chance you'd be interested in selling? I'd like to grab that for my Individual

Hehe Thanks for asking...unfortunately I'm going to keep this for as long as I have my car (no plans to ever sell this car). Good luck with your search for another one though!

I would try to talk to your dealer or maybe a vendor who orders parts from Germany. I have one coming in and from my understanding its coming from Germany.
