Removing clear bra

Anyone remove clear bra on your car? If so, what did you use to remove the adhesive?

safe for the paint I assume? any additional things to do after using the adhesive remover besides rinse and wash? I started working on mine today.. tested out the process on the side mirror shell and waiting to do the hood once I figure out the process.

Yes - I used it on 1999 AW paint with no issues. Definitely wash off when done with soap and water. Some guys use heat, but I didn't need to or want to mess with a heat gun or blow dryer. i let car sit in sun. Try to pull in a manner and speed so as most glue comes off with the bra.

How old is ur clear bra? Older and more it sat in sun the more work for you.

I used a blow dryer which wasn't too hot and I don't think I could do it without it... I think mines been on there past it's limit

Use either a heat gun or blow dryer. Start at a corner and heat the clearbra side to side and then slowly begin to pull back and keep blowing side to side. Don't be afraid to pull. As long as there is factory paint underneath you should be ok. Also having the car outside on a hot day in sunlight will help a little. The idea is to soften the plastic which makes it more pliable.

The bra I took off was 16 years old and yellow. This stuff did the trick.

Removed my 7 year old clear bra with a heat gun. Then used googone automotive on what little adhesive was left. Works pretty good.

If you're not going to use a heat gun make sure its a relatively warm day. I tried to remove a clear bra from an old car when it was 17 degrees outside and it pulled the clear coat right off the paint. Don't be like me lol

Ok, so I am two weeks into this disaster.. currently, I have pretty old clear bra on just the front of the hood.. so not very much. unfortunately, EVERY single thing I have tried is failing. Today I dropped it off at a respected shop specializing in clear bra, tint, detailing, etc. He quoted me 250 for the job, but said, it might be worse and I'll call you. An hour later, he called and said, the steam gun method isn't working, it isn't coming up more than a small quarter sized piece at a time. Just as I experienced using the heat gun. Its far past coming off in sheets. He said the only thing he can do is keep it for two days, at least, and pray it doesn't take 10+ hours. I told him I'd wait and they didn't charge me for the failed hour attempt.

My assumed options at this point, no clue what to do... any help would be appreciated greatly.

- Buy a used or new hood for E90 Space Grey, paint match or whatever is needed... sell the old one perhaps?
- Find someone to wet sand it off, if possible, could risk ruining the paint.
- Take 10 hours out of my life to painstakingly pick off inch by inch, every piece of this shit. (not going to happen)
- pay someone to do the option above. (probably over a grand at least)
- any ideas?

Looks like all of the above is going to need paint work and all the mess that goes with it...

I absolutely hate clear bra. Regardless of how badly the PO handled it by leaving it on, I still think it's the worst shit ever.

use the rubber wheel posted above. it will be a huge mess, and take a few hours, but it will work. remove any left over adhesive with the 3m adhesive remover.

I have had to do this in our shop many times. I keep trying to tell people that clear bra is not a permanent solution, but nobody listens. There is a chance that you can ruin the paint trying to remove the clear bra, but we have had decent success with the rubber wheel method.

Thank you! do you have a link to the exact product to buy? I'd hate to buy the wrong one and mess it up further. I feel like that video above is going to be 5+ hours on this, as that video shows it removing some sort of tape... since this is slick and not textured, how does it compare when you do it?

the wheel disintegrates as you use it, and flys all over the place. this is normal, you will probably kill the whole wheel taking off the clear bra.

I used a heat gun and warmed up the clear bra and slowly pulled it off. Then used googone automotive to remove what was left of the adhesive. If you take your time there should be minimal adhesive left.
