safe for the paint I assume? any additional things to do after using the adhesive remover besides rinse and wash? I started working on mine today.. tested out the process on the side mirror shell and waiting to do the hood once I figure out the process.

Use either a heat gun or blow dryer. Start at a corner and heat the clearbra side to side and then slowly begin to pull back and keep blowing side to side. Don't be afraid to pull. As long as there is factory paint underneath you should be ok. Also having the car outside on a hot day in sunlight will help a little. The idea is to soften the plastic which makes it more pliable.

The bra I took off was 16 years old and yellow. This stuff did the trick.

If you're not going to use a heat gun make sure its a relatively warm day. I tried to remove a clear bra from an old car when it was 17 degrees outside and it pulled the clear coat right off the paint. Don't be like me lol

Ok, so I am two weeks into this disaster.. currently, I have pretty old clear bra on just the front of the hood.. so not very much. unfortunately, EVERY single thing I have tried is failing. Today I dropped it off at a respected shop specializing in clear bra, tint, detailing, etc. He quoted me 250 for the job, but said, it might be worse and I'll call you. An hour later, he called and said, the steam gun method isn't working, it isn't coming up more than a small quarter sized piece at a time. Just as I experienced using the heat gun. Its far past coming off in sheets. He said the only thing he can do is keep it for two days, at least, and pray it doesn't take 10+ hours. I told him I'd wait and they didn't charge me for the failed hour attempt.
My assumed options at this point, no clue what to do... any help would be appreciated greatly. - Buy a used or new hood for E90 Space Grey, paint match or whatever is needed... sell the old one perhaps? - Find someone to wet sand it off, if possible, could risk ruining the paint. - Take 10 hours out of my life to painstakingly pick off inch by inch, every piece of this shit. (not going to happen) - pay someone to do the option above. (probably over a grand at least) - any ideas? Looks like all of the above is going to need paint work and all the mess that goes with it... I absolutely hate clear bra. Regardless of how badly the PO handled it by leaving it on, I still think it's the worst shit ever. |

I have had to do this in our shop many times. I keep trying to tell people that clear bra is not a permanent solution, but nobody listens. There is a chance that you can ruin the paint trying to remove the clear bra, but we have had decent success with the rubber wheel method.

the wheel disintegrates as you use it, and flys all over the place. this is normal, you will probably kill the whole wheel taking off the clear bra.
