USA cars will have the cable *included* with the car. It comes as part of ordering option 6FL. In other markets, owners needed to purchase the cable separately.

Thanks for the info!

I've heard that some 3er customers had to fight with the dealerships in order to get the cable for free. I'll find out in a few weeks for myself. By the way, I think the part number is 61 12 0 422 099.

Just make sure it is the iPod cable, not just a USB cable which is standard with the car in Australia.

Yes, true ... but that was only with the initial roll out of 6FL. There was miscommunication between BMW NA and the dealers .. thats now since being resolved for the most part. If you don't get a cable with the car ... demand it ;-)

Thanks for your advice. Hopefully my dealer won't give me a hard time about the cable.

The reason for the double connection (USB and AUX audio connector) is due to Apple's protection on AAC encoded audio files. They would not normally transmit via the digital/USB interface, so all audio can play directly through the AUX interface/connection. USB (control and file information) and AUX audio (for actual sound reporoduction). Make sure you have the updated BMW cable as shown before to play all correctly.
