Double hump to single hump conversion?

Hello, has anyone done this? I prefer the single hump look much more and I do not use the NAV at all (phone is better and quicker). Besides the radio and dash, what else would I need? Do I need any coding done? TIA.

Yup you do need coding, just code out the CIC unit, and program the BMW Business radio.
Fairly simple if you know what you doing or get someone who knows what they are doing.

Thanks! I will reach out to a friend of mine who does coding and see if he can code it out.

I've never removed a dash off this car but I can't imagine it being that difficult if I can find some how-to's.

Didn't take long!

A good time to make that swap would be if the dash was coming out anyway to fix the evaporator coils or something similar.

Good luck and sub'd for pics before, during and after if you make the swap.

Good point, I looked it up and see where exactly that is located. Then got me looking up how to clean the evaporator core. lol

Don't forget about the center console too. I started to look at doing this and would like to one day assuming I keep the car long enough. It's just low on the priority list. Mainly I'm unsure what kind of electrical/wiring (if any) needs to be done because messing that up scares me. The beauty is that the parts themselves can be sourced from any single-hump e9x. I was pricing it out and finding a single-hump e9x at Pick-n-Pull could result in the cost being well below $1000 before factoring in any money recouped by selling the old parts.

This is what I had compiled for the swap. Not sure if it's entirely correct or complete but it's a start:

51457143779
51167903964
51457123749
51457075394
51459120979
65129170329
65129119363

Edit: there's a single-hump donor car right in my backyard...maybe I need to go do some recon this weekend http://www.picknpull.com/vehicle_det...VB13506KX64471

I thought you'd just have to change out the i-drive knob thing?

No you don't, just take the controller off and add in the little rubber cup holder like thingy. No need to change the trim.

Alternative is to add smartphone mirroring and control to the factory display

Even in a CarPlay car, I still need my phone mounted on the dash. Smartphone mirroring is too crippled to use as a primary interface. If I'm going to have my phone on the dash, there's no reason to have navigation.

I don't drive the car much, I just need a radio and bluetooth for phone calls.

They have units where it supports car play properly now, not mirroring.

Still doesn't avoid needing the phone mounted on the dash. Carplay is deliberately crippled and will never not be crippled.

...and using CarPlay without a touch screen is pain.

I think a bunch of them replace the screen with a higher res touch screen. Why would you need you phone mounted? I don't have this set up but I can't imagine why you have to mount a phone to the dash to use carplay. I've never seen anyone mount a phone to the dash to use carplay.
