water leak, how to remove Fuel Filler Door Assembly ?

hey guys , water is leaking into my battery compartment, e92 M3. I performed a hose test over the fuel door and it seems to be the culprit. How do i remove and replace it?

BMW said its 2 hours worth of labour, is that true?

Also had a screw missing on my left hand tail light, water got in and fried my logic 7 amp, please check your vehicles from time to time. Merry Christmas

Hi,
I had mine out recently while converting my rear quarters.
You insert an object in each of the 4 round holes. That releases the tabs that holds the fuel flap in position.
I used 4 new pop rivets, inserted backwards.

I would say its under 1 hour labor, and most of that goes for removing the trim inside the boot. You need to dismantle the actuator for the fuel door, and reinstall it after you have fitted the fuel door back in.

Anyway, why can't you simply try clear silicone from Bunnings? I would apply a miniscule amount between the paint and the edge of the fuel flap unit.
Perhaps best if you take the fuel flap unit out, then insert it again with some silicone.

Cheers,

Hi,
apology for giving you some incorrect information. I must have mixed up with some other clips on my car.
I do have 4 plastic plugs (like a nail with head) that seals these 4 holes, and those secure the locking tabs in position.

I remember now that I had to fish out the 4 nails (that you are missing) and after that reach in with a tool from behind to help get the tabs to release.
I can look at my spare fuel flap door tomorrow and see exactly how it looks.

Perhaps your water is simply coming in where the 4 plugs should have been.

Cheers,

Hi

Firstly apologies for a thread revival, I have this issue on my E92 M3 and after removing water from the battery compartment.

I tested the leak with a hose and it seems to be coming from the fuel filler down the back and into the battery compartment..

Did anyone manage to get this resolved using sealant?

Where did you seal from? as I can see the seal thats outside, but I assume there is also a seal inside too.

Thanks for your help.
A.
