Scary stuff indeed. Luckily he was able to scrub off some speed on the asphalt....

Any idea re the brand of tires on the GT3?
They look like Hoosiers

At least it seems he was not hurt. Could have been really bad.

I wonder if he sued Hoosier?

Good luck trying to prove that the tire shredded due to a manufacturing defect. I think once you are on track, all bets are off - if you are going to push a car like that, you'd better expect equipment failures, and be willing to live with the consequences.

might be hard to sue, he was hitting those curbs pretty hard and breaking pretty late compared to the 991 in front of him. Tire could have let go for a number of different reasons.

He seems like he was happy to just walk away with minor injuries. Car is repairable but he is going to just sell it

Well, those tires are for track use only, so I would not buy something manufactured and advertised for track use with expectation that I am playing russian roulette. Still, may be difficult to get anything out of them - probably no way to prove it was not debris damage or overheating

Hoosiers come with huge disclaimers, so a lawsuit probably would get thrown out in no time. Plus, for all we know, the tires could have been 6 years old - not like we haven't seen that happen before.

Its a slick tire, its a track tire.

Either way, its a scary event. Its actually something that crosses my mind at the Glen sometimes.

This is one of the reasons I am thinking of just doing a track car with all the safety equipment. As you can see, this was out of his control, other than maybe the tires weren't good to begin with, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt on that one.

On a side note, glad to see the 991 is quick.

Makes me feel better about my purchase, LOL.

100% agree, dedicated trackar is the way to go. Only issue is you need a tow vehicle, trailer.....
Had the pleasure of driving a friends 996, stripped caged fuel cell with slick tires.....
Incredible!

Let's not rely on prayer*. Inspect your equipment before running at speed. If a piece of equipment is questionable, replace it.

Tires and sushi: if it looks bad, don't cross your fingers and hope for the best!

*(Prayer: that's a whole other conversation)
