Experience with Driveshaft Specialist of Texas?

Has anyone had their Driveshaft rebuilt at Driveshaft Specialists of Texas? Considering using them to rebuild my driveshaft in hopes of getting rid of the worsening clunks and sloppiness. For $460 (including shipping) + core it seems like a steal while I await another GB for the CF Driveshaft. If it ever happens again..

Also open to other DS repair shops if anyone has any experience with other shops.

This might be just what I was looking for. Lifetime warranty too.

Did you diy the install? If so, any issues with fitment or bolts you needed to order separately?

I did self install I reused most of hardware but the crimp nuts on the transmission side.

AutoZone or oreillys auto can order it. I got mine from auto zone and had them price match O'Reilly's and AutoZone don't charge for shipping. Make sure you order the correct one Mt/dct they have different part numbers. Also if you get it from a local parts store you can return it easy if you have any issues down the road.

Very very helpful. Thank you, sir. It looks like a local part store actually has 1 in stock surprisingly. Will see if they can price match.

I had been waiting on DSS to get a 6MT core but they are very hard to come buy, so I had a local shop here in Florida build me a new driveshaft with rebuild-able spicer u-joint. So far all is well.

I used them, very fast turn around. Dropped off directly at UPS distribution center (Monday or Tuesday evening) got the shaft back with in a week. So far shaft is working well.

Had the shop you worked with done any work on this cars specific driveshaft before?

I don't believe so, I found them by searching around and realized they were local. It took two weeks from order to pickup but they use OEM BMW parts and Spicer.

Looks good! I might start reaching out to local shops again to see if they can do a similar setup. This would save me the hassle of sourcing a core so my car isn't on Jack stands for the week.

That is the same shaft that dorman sells. They are made by pti mine took two weeks aswell and I ordered it from AutoZone.. the last 4 of the part number match off your sticker on your shaft. They are not friction welded like factory shafts.

Lots of shops can order kits from pti and assemble them. But it's more cost effective to just buy an assembled shaft.

Just installed the Dorman driveshaft plus trans mounts while I was in there.

Purchased from Autozone with 20% off so came out to around $650 to my door in 3 days.

Car feels like new again. Tested to 120 mph so far and not a hint of noise nor vibration. Clunks are gone and overall the car feels more engaged and less clunky.

Couldn't be happier I went this route. Thanks guys!

I'm glad it worked out and you got it in 3 days.

Hi - what was your overall experience with this dorman driveshaft? would you re-do it?

Thank you.

It worked like a charm. For the money it’s the best solution imo. At the time I bought it the carbon driveshafts had supply issues. Not sure how much they are now.

But, for ease of install and a lifetime warranty if you buy it from Autozone/Advance Auto Parts etc. it’s a good deal.
