M3 secret menu?
hi,
I would need a little help. One my friend, into an Italian Forum (thank you Nicola Spiazzola) teached me about the secret menu that also an owner could use, using some steps with the ig.key and the partial km button. Sure you have already spoken about this secret menu in this Forum. Can someone help me finding the thread? best regards Savage |

Savage, I doubt this has been discussed here before...
From a quick search, it seems: press & hold the iDrive dish thing for 10 sec.; clockwise 3 clicks; counter 3 clicks; clock 1; counter 1; clock 1; press once (Let us know if this works guys ) |

later this evening I will take the time to check what is possible to know from that menu.At least for what they told me, the true speed value. But I hope much more datas. To enter is not necessary to use that knob, but to use the key inserction and to push the reset button of the partial km indicator. More news asap.
Bye bye now |

i dont know about what bmw's does, but in a mercedes the "secret" menu aka service menu has settings that technicians use while servicing your vehicle, ie maintenance counter, dyno mode, service history, etc. id bet bmw's is similar.
thats the only way you can fully disable traction control in a benz btw. |

Anyone knows what this means????[/QUOTE] I have not time now to make a complete report in English, but cool is that you can see water temperature, true digital speed, true rpm speed, true consumption, date and week of manufacturing, residual amount of liters in the fuel tank and many other factors. Sorry too late now for me to make the translation of what I found. Sure I will do in another moment. Here the list: 1.0 Numero di telaio 1.1 Contatore KM 1.2 Parts number 1.3 Coding-, Diagnostic- and Bus-index 1.4 Data di Produzione (Calendario settimana/anno) 1.5 Hard- and Software status 1.6 Stato dell’iniezione, contatore cilindri, fattori del motore. 2.0 Combisystem Test 3.0 contatore intervallo manutezione 4.0. Es. 000000 = no failures 15.0 - 18.0 No function 19.0 On/Off for Test menu. 20.0 Fattore di correzione per consumo di benzina Formula per il fattore di correzione: Shown consumption x 1000 / user defined consumption Push the trip reset button to begin the correction. Numbers count up from 0-9, when correct number shows push trip reset button. 20.1 Sets 10ths. for consumption factor 20.2 Sets 100ths. and 1000ths. for consumption factor 20.3 Saves the new consumption factor and shows new value 21.0 Software reset. (accade lo stesso disconnettendo la batteria) L'unico accorgimento da fare, secondo me è di lasciar perdere i menu' 20 e 21 poichè non mi sono chiari, per il resto buona navigazione bye bye now |

those version numbers are necessary because car companies typically update the software for vehicles every so often for various reasons. technicians need to be able tell what version of the software your vehicle has so they know whether or not its up to date. as for the other things, tuner gateway etc. if your vehicle has any kind of electronic assist ie tele-aid, onstar, (even just navi) etc those numbers are required for authorization so they know the vehicle is actually yours and everything about it. OBD III has been in the works now for several years, still hasnt been put into use yet.....possibly some of the stuff in there could be for obd III functionality, but who really knows or cares. |

What I can say is that is nothing spectacular, but to drive and to see some of these indications in front of you, could be fine in some situations. For example very interesting is that the water temperature was today morning (highway) always close to 80 degrees (celsius) . I was expecting much more. I know that series 3 e90 runs at around 105 degrees. They want to run at 105 degrees to lower the emissions (pollution). Someone thinks that this is the reason why there is not the water temp. indicator on the BMW cars...They don't want to worry the customers.... Later the instructions how to enter into the secret menu.... |
