Good planning! I bought three new sets and borrowed two sets for my new car before it even arrived lol
Two weeks later one borrowed set is destroyed, one more used, and sticker R7's already have 7 heat cycles so I guess I'm doing this right.

About to go pickup 3 more sets of tires another friend is giving me today haha

I'm always jealous of Dan and his fancy GM PDR videos. Especially since my SamrtyCam sound still doesnt work Might have to go back to GoPro.

People who "recently" stockpile are never part of the reason a shortage exists though right? They were "planning ahead".

Back before good bourbon became impossible to find I ran into this a lot. "I've got 3 cases of pappy bunkered in case it becomes impossible to find"

Uh....anyone bunkering 18 bottles of Pappy is part of the reason it has become non-existent.

Jokes aside, this kind of stuff happens every year. I stockpile rotors, pads, brake fluid, etc etc. Usually I can do almost a whole season without buying a single item.

If you try to stay lean on inventory you get screwed. That is prior to Covid19

Yeah, this always happens to me.
Use up brake pads, need a new set, "oh sorry we are three weeks out on your pads," then curse about missing a track day...
So now I keep spares of everything on hand and pre-plan for the year based on number of events I'm planning to attend.
With Autox I can calculate tire life with number of runs and track with sessions/heat cycles and usually be on the money.

Not a huge fan of the PDR videos, 99% of the time the sound is hot garbage, and I think having a cockpit view is the best so you can see what your hands are doing. I have some china knock off gopro but it doesn't have spot metering so the view of the track is always way over exposed might have to pony up for an actual GoPro

They are always running package deals, even on the previous-gen models. Just do it.

I agree the video quality on the PDR stuff is pretty lousy, but it ALWAYS works and I just need to press a single button.

Rookie mistake! Come on! Always have N+2 on consumables. You know better. :-)

Sunscreen from resetting cones.

In all seriousness, I need to start doing this. Once I've settled on preferred tires I think N+2 is a wise investment.

One of the perks of AP9668 or PFC Z54 pad sizes is the NASCAR team runoffs are cheap and widely available in compounds. Often times unused.

Even the older GoPro 3 and 4 models still shoot decent 1080p60 video. You can get used ones for under a hundred bucks on Craigslist or eBay.

Anyone have experience going from RE71s to Yoko AO52s? My tires on the E46 track car are about dead, and with them being discontinued, trying to decide if I should stick with a grippier but streetable (no trailer) tire, or back to RS4s and be slower.

My E46 is 3060 pounds without me in it. So lighter than an E92 but has close to the same power.

Falken rt660.
They likely aren't in stock right now but would be most comparable.

I'm excited to try the CR-1. Likely 275/315. Seems like a nice alternative to AO52 sizing too.

Unless you are chasing lap records or running time attack/time trial, get the more durable tire.

I would try and get a 5 or newer simply cause they have GPS as well as WiFi access. Hero4 sometimes is finicky with the GoPro apps for wifi control.

The problem with the GPS ones is that the GoPro company is useless so they stopped updating their software for the PC/Mac. It's pretty much abandoned. Want to edit everything on your phone? Great, that app is somewhat up to date.

Computer? Nope. You're out of luck.

I got a GoPro 9 and had to spend another bunch of money on RaceRender (Ultimate - Mac and PC app) just to be able to see the GPS data overlayed. It also gives you lap times which is nice, but still, should be part of official GoPro software.

GoPro takes excellent video, when it's working…My Hero 7 black loves to turn itself off for all sorts of reasons, or fail to turn on, overheat, etc.

Probably most importantly, If you're connecting to external power remove the battery as it'll overheat and turn itself off. But that means you have to be diligent about stopping the recording before turning off the car. Or you can corrupt the files.

That's a good point. My end goal was always to get overlay on my sessions. This meant race render was already purchased for this use case. Before I got my aim solo, the GPS file was a welcome addition for overlay use. Now I have aim solo and GoPro data sources to merge so I guess it's not as relevant.

It never seemed to difficult for importing in. I've got it down to syncing one data point within 5 minutes to gain my overlayed video ready to export.

There only caveat is PC is required for me anyways since aim solo had its own software issues on mac ( non existent)
