I do admire how Z06 guys can install a full exhaust and some cams and then get 600 rwhp for much less than $10k.

But how much did you just spend on the swap for the ability to install bolt ons for lots of power? Probably a couple thousand in labor. You also have to buy the engine. So you're already easily over $10k already.

You could have just gone FI from the start.

I'm always amazed at the bias on forums. I can tell you the supposed s54 is no great engine. Wow, a cast iron straight six. oh my god did it come from the future. I know the response is going to be it can rev to 8000rpms. Why were these engines self destructing in the M3 but not in M coupe. It was due to the Mcoupes lower red line. You can take almost any production engine run it to 8000 rpms periodically.

I worked for Toyota as a factory rep. People would overrev the motors on the Celica GTS's. The ECU would record the engine speed at the time of the overrev. Some engines would hold together all the way to 12,500rpms.

My point is let's keep some perspective.
My point is that if I wanted a Corvette, I would buy one. Why buy a BMW and stuff a Corvette engine in it? BMWs are not about straight line speed or displacement. They are about balance. This video to me is way over the top and unnecessary. I think the other links someone posted to a civic with a Vette engine and a VW bus with a 911 engine/drivetrain were much cooler in concept (even though still a bit too much work for what you get in the end).

All in all, to each his own. I don't mean to sound judgemental. Cool someone can pull it off.

I don't completely disagree with some of the points in your post, but this part is flat out ridiculous. The reason some early M3s lost engines was due to faulty (out of spec) rod bearings from BMW's supplier. You can rev an S54 to 8k RPM all day long and never have issues. I revved mine up to 8k every day for 120k+ miles and never had a single issue. The engine is very well built and has a damn good bottom end.

That I agree with. And also, let's stick to the facts.

It is called Hot Rodding and actually the LS series of V8's make a pretty good swap into whatever they go into.A neighbour of ours has a 928 GTS that he put a LS6 into as he blew up the Porsche V8.It has worked out quite well for him as it has more power and is lighter.

I support all the above quotes! That engine bay is a proper disaster and the wing on that thing is proper disgusting beyond belief. The owner should be hung for such obscenity.

I have my reservations on the M3 claim... Why would any M3 owner/enthusiast rid of the wonderful M-Power engine.

Going to have nightmares now!

Because you can buy a complete new LS7 with over 500bhp for a little over $10000 with full waranty. They are also a very small light package.

http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/Pa...l.jsp?engine=2

There are also a couple of E39's around here with Ls series engines in them.

Wow... guess you learn something new everyday. Didn't know it was relatively cheap. IMHO, personally i wouldnt do such things just because you're losing out on the heritage of the M3. *no offence*

Then again... as i mentioned, I have strong reservations on the claim the vehicle is an M3. So i suppose an exception can be made.

Do they have A/C and the OEM gauge cluster? The guy at Henderson Performance Technology said it is pretty straight forward but most other tuners were using aftermarket gauges and no A/C. The hardest part has been getting that stuff to work.

That doesn't look like a LS engine to me... Looks like an old 350 with a carburetor, no electronics makes it easy enough for any backyard mechanic to stuff into almost any car. Hardly takes any money to get tremendous power out of them too when compared to BMW engines. Although I wouldn't do it to my BMW, I bet that thing is fast as hell.

It 's probally not even an aluminum small block so it would be heavy.A well thought out LS type conversion could probally work out quite well.I personally would not go that way either but It does not have to be as bad a project as people are thinking.
