Why is it that every time I mess with the intake I lose my hood latch functionality?! It must be the flimsiest weakest link P.O.S. connection in that area!

Anybody know how to get the hood to open when the latch doesn't release?

I'm assuming your title means anything goes, so I'll take this opportunity to upload a photo my girl took behind the wheel of our M3 today. What a great shot of the Alcantara wheel a rainbow and the American flag. She has a good eye for pictures.

Hey OP, how is the M3 getting along with the stage 2 BPM tune? Still everything you thought it would be?

Hey nice photo Boof!

Ps. Assume OP got stuck under his bonnet, fiddling with his latch trying to get out.

Hilarious Helmsman. I love how the Bimmerpost crew thinks. You guys make me laugh every day. I used to come on here drooling over these great cars. For me it's about the humor now. Maybe some will call it trolling but I don't care. I'm living the life, great family, car, job, friends and Bimmerpost pals.

It is a PITA to release the hood if the latches or cables break... Youtube has a few good videos on it. Basically you take a long screw driver, bend it in a long arc, and reach in through the grilles and try to contact the latch arm. Need a good flash light too.

Haha, yes it's good fun isn't it! To be honest the Post has become part of the pleasure owning this car. The wealth of knowledge to be found is stunning but certainly the raw but friendly chatting in between is also a valuable piece - Keep it up mate!

Did you try replacing your rod bearings??
I couldn't just be a troll, so here is a video that might help with your actual issue:

Yes! That is the one that helped me on my way to getting a stuck hood open. I had to really take my time and aim the screwdriver tip just right to get it. Make sure to wedge a rag or something under each side of the hood as you pop the latch. I finally got one side to release and it re-latched under its own weight as soon as I went to the other side...

You replace whatever piece is broken. There are three cables and multiple connection points. Need to find out where it's damaged and order the correct replacement part.

This is the first I've heard of this and OP is talking like it is a common issue. Anyone else?

I'm not sure how often OP is opening and closing the hood, though I doubt BMW has engineered that part to be used every day for multiple years. It sounds like he's doing it more than average since he's talking about adjusting the intake.

Although it's a fairly simple mechanism, nothing is ever going to be 100% reliable. It will slowly deteriorate from heat cycling, exposure to the elements, debris, and whatever else.

Nope, the hood probably isn't opened but once a quarter.

Owned the car 18 months. Cable broke in November and then again yesterday. I installed Pulleys which requires removing the intake. I thought the first time the cable broke was in March around the time of my intake install but it was 6 months later. I assumed there was a finicky connection on the driver/intake side bc I could unlatch the passenger side. Apparently the cable disconnected from the latch.

Thanks,

I watched the video and am hesitant about pulling the grills off. It just feels like something will break. Took it in to the dealer, still have a few days of warranty left.

Because it's happened twice in 9 months and never happened on my E92 335 or any other car I've owned. Isn't this what the forum is for? Collective knowledge and trolls all in one place.

Oh lol lol lol. Yes it is Mark I mean Boof. My girl must have been listening to him when she took that photo. She is a beautiful black haired beauty from that part of the world. That's real detective stuff there Mike and Philippe. I do find myself scanning photos for minute little details also. The sun is setting and I'm thinking of jumping into her right now. The car, not the girl.
