There are so many competent shops in CA that can do the service they have to have such competitive pricing. Unfortunately it's not like that in our area

you understand why construction workers are paid $150k in NYC and $30k in Ohio, right?......... right........?

@Honda They provide a high quality service, so they charge a lot... in this case their pricing is super on point, but in general yes you will pay a lot to have your car wrenched on there.

Why? Quality matters. I won't even get into the infinite decisions you definitely make that exemplify that everyone including you are willing to pay more for high quality goods. Otherwise you wouldn't drive an m3... right you'd get a 3 series. or more aptly put a honda.

going rate is 2500, definitely. that's about 15-1600 for labor after the bearings oil random parts taxes etc. In my opinion it's a really good deal, given that they do a bearing job almost every week you can rest assured when the crank is spinning 250 times a second.

This is a very subjective comment. M3 versus a regular 3 series or Honda is not really relevant. I had a Jetta sportwagen as a daily and still wanted good service when needed. I don't need to pay more when my M3 gets worked on because it costs more than the Jetta did.

It is quality related but it also has to do with what/who you are comfortable with. I have a buddy with a garage full of top notch tools and a lift and he can do pretty much anything RRT can do (minus wheel mounting and alignments). He's done supercharger installs and full engine replacements. I like working with him because I learn something during each install.

When I can't work with him I will use GT Peace and Flemmings Automotive. I feel they both have reasonable prices for quality work provided.

The forums helped me find (and now trust) both of those shops

Was talking about the vehicle purchase price and quality of vehicles. You bought an M3 for significantly more (either in cash or in condition of vehicle) than your sportwagen... so therefore you appreciate that there is a quality to an M3 that does not exist in the sportwagen, wouldn't you say? but i digress, as it's pointless to use us plebs anyway - let's talk real cars! How many lambo owners are there in the world? They're all paying for "quality" they can't get elsewhere.

As per your garage mechanic i've done all the above and more and have access to lifts stocked toolchests blah blah insert extra proof i have a 12 foot dick yadda yadda. I wouldn't ever do a bearing job for $2500, nor would i pay anyone that's not a shop with insurance and support should something go wrong anywhere near $2500. But - i am curious - please get a quote from your two shops and your buddy (who provides a much different value than a shop), i would be quite impressed if they are much below 2500!

Both shops are cheaper than RRT for RBs. My buddy does not charge me much because I am in the midst of the install....

2500 is completely reasonable

Hopefully they let you use BE bearings.

They only use BE Bearings and ARP bolts. I believe they have a sponsorship or something like that. I already got my rod bearings done last summer by them.

The customer service is what makes me go back for things I don't DIY myself. For example, a couple months ago I kept getting a misfire in cyl. 5. I did the ol' spark plugs / coil pack switcharoo and the misfire stayed in Cyl. 5. My next step was to try injectors but didn't have time to do it. Left it at RRT and explained them that I already self diagnosed the plugs/coils. They did their own diagnosis and claimed that the injector was flowing fine and they thought I dropped a valve or something. (Part of me was upset, the other half was excited for a stroker build lol.) So the next obvious step was a leak down & compression test. Results came back with all cylinders having great compression. They tested the injector again and found it was faulty and was on its way out which could explain why it was working fine when they tested it the first time. I thought I'd have to spend more money than I originally thought but they didn't charge me for the leak down and compression test since it was a mis-diagnosis. That caught me off guard as other shops that I've been to in the past charge for everything. They also gave me a CCA discount of 10% and an additional 5% from themselves. Like I said, solid guys and I'm sure other shops are more than capable of doing rod bearings in the area.

Super solid, and nobody here knows me but I don’t take my cars to ANY shops lol. Ever. Do my own motor pulls if I need to. Lately been crazy busy so had a good buddy and RRT taking the slack... In an industry with almost no accountability. These guys are a rare gem

I have had experience at both TTFS and RRT they are both great places. Mike at RRT s a beast Frank smith is the most knowledgeable guy. however I would choose frank all day his prices are more comparable and and his work is always done super quick. it would be nice to know does anyone have any personal review of GT Peace?

It would be criminal not to get a tune while at Frank's place. Happy to spend other people's money for them.

For us city guys who live far away from RRT and other shops deep into NOVA, does anyone have any suggestions for places that can do rod bearings that are at least inside the beltway? Anyone ever take their car to Martin Motorsport in Alexandria?
