Removing Clutch Delay Valve Changed Engagement Point

I have a 2008 E92 M3, and the clutch engagement has always felt vague to me. I took the car in to a BMW shop and had them remove the CDV entirely.

Dramatic difference.

The clutch engagement point is extremely clear. If you drive smoothly the car will be smooth.

However, now my engagement point is extremely low. What would explain this? The clutch fluid has to travel less distance now that the valve is gone.

Is there an adjustment that my shop should have done? Is the engagement point even adjustable?

I would bleed it again if you think the engagement is very low.

Interesting. I did this on my old 08 E92 M3 and while it did improve feel, it was not a dramatic difference imo, so much so I continued to chase a better gearbox experience by doing a clutch stop, Autosolutions SSK, etc to no avail

IMO...THE 'best upgrade' is the UCP - Ultimate Clutch Pedal.

100% improvement in feel, engagement and also adjustable.
Runnin' this along with clutch stop and AutoSolutions SSK

I thought our cars don't come with a CDV? Am I missing something?

They do but they're a lot better than the e46 ones.

Correct. My biggest gripe was how the clutch pedal behaved. I just found it really difficult to modulate even with the UCP and I've driven a lot of manual cars.

Interesting. So you'd say the SSK was an improvement though?

I have to admit, I've found the manual on these cars the most difficult to drive smoothly. Often makes me wish I had a DCT...

My engagement point did not move with CDV removal. I really don't have complaints with my OEM clutch feel, but unfortunately 2008 clutches & flywheels are no longer made, so I'll be doing billet LWFW when mine goes.

SSK did improve the overall manual driving experience, yes. But was it optimal? Far from it. I ultimately switched to DCT after 5 years with the manual. I held onto the manual for about a year after I got the DCT in the event I had a change of heart, but DCT is definitely the way to go for this platform imo. Of course, the manual is still fun and there is always a time and place for it.

Yall are describing my experience with my 330ci's clutch. For whatever reason, I've found my 2008 M3 clutch to be quite intuitive and, while I have a billet flywheel and a CM350 waiting on a garage shelf to go in, I don't feel the need to change them until I do something that requires dropping the transmission. 2009+ clutches may have a different feel, haven't driven one. I know they dumbed down the flywheel and probably clutch because the SBUX crowd complained about NVH from the lighter 2008 flywheel. I will say that the CAE shifter has turned the experience up to 11 and has swayed me from desiring DCT on this platform. (I do run PDK with my GT4)

Personally, I don't plan on modding my e90 much aside from mild suspension upgrades. HOWEVER....I think a shifter and maybe the UCP might be in the future....Don't think I'll touch the hydraulic valve though.
