It's definitely your driving style. I putt around LA doing the speed limit on the right lanes and people just ignore me.

I tend to get nothing but love in my M3.

What a tough crowd in this thread
In 2007 when people were talking about pre-ordering the upcoming E9x M3 and debating what options to choose it was a different crowd in these forums. Quickly after the production ended in 2013 I have observed the E9x forum crowd to tranform to an unsavory group of characters. In the early years this forum was dominated by people with big egos but most were well educated with top tier professions and they set a certain level of mutual respect in the forum. Now since the car is affordable to dorm living students the level of some postings is frat debauchery party like and no respect for the OP, passing jugements on him after a page or two, crowd following weakness, everything goes, like a troup of angry apes. It's true what Clarkson says "most M3 owners are a****les". Especially among people who do not buy new, as it requires a certain amount of decency to make a good living to afford new. If you see another M3 driver you're better off ignoring him, trust me on that. Yes there are good guys but they're in the minority compared to a sample of the same size in the general population. As for the OP's question. It depends where you live and the impression you give to others when driving. Admittedly when i was new with the car I probably was not very subtle in my driving style and when you have that much power at your command and you make use it, it can look very obnoxious from another car more than you think. Once you adjust to the car and refine your driving style you'll find less 'hate'. But there is no doubt compared to a regular car that when you are in the M3 you have to be more aware that there will be haters that do not get triggered by a Toyota. Jealousy exist and people are shallow and are quite insecure and are quick to imagine that you are flaunting your car specifically at them even when you're not. Watch out when you detect such behavior and avoid trouble. You need some discerment when driving an M3 you are more likely to be the target of road rage. Most troubling drivers can be left in the dust unless you're in traffic. When I detail with 100% carnauba wax, I get many compliments on the car but also I got middle fingers out of the window when driving in urban area (no aggressive driving at all). But that usually comes from the lowest grade of people... It can even be funny. I've seen some haters almost running themselves into a ditch or loosing control of their vehicle while you are simply cruising, not acknowledging them and not changing anything about your driving. You have to watch out for such people not to crash in front of you. You sure will have experiences that you would not have with a regular car. Anyway all this happens quite rarely and it depends a lot on where you live. Last edited by Rajmun340; 08-31-2017 at 09:52 PM.. |

There are freaks and fairys and assholes and treehuggers everywhere. You've proven this. For the record - I've been driving M3s in.... gasp... San Diego (oh the horror!!!!) for about 15 years and have had little to no negative reactions AND I drive way, way over the speed limit all the time. I'm just not an asshole about it ![]() |

In my very liberal major metropolitan area, for many, the mere fact that you are driving a BMW is enough to make you the subject of derision and aggression. My wife has had enough, she is considering trading her 550 in on a Lexus, a car that doesn't seem to draw the hate.

If this comment is intended to be a comment on my post, you are wrong; I am a responsible driver. While being an attractive blonde, which may account for some juvenile behavior, my wife is a very reasonable and mature senior executive at a Fortune 25 Company, she is hardly given to aggressive driving.

Not directed at anyone either but the amount of people who think their almost 10 year old m3 is an exotic is astounding on here

The only negativity I've experienced was loading my car after getting groceries one day. A lady in a minivan, pulls up beside me as I'm loading my car, rolls her window down and says "what a F-ing douchebag", then drives off. I feel sorry for her kids that were in the car. What a terrible role model....

The e9x M3 is a great car and I love mine as my DD alternate, but it's just a $30k used car. The typical new Camry buyer probably spends more. M3's fly under the radar and rarely get noticed in my area. |

Even when it was new it wasn't an exotic, at least not in any major metropolitan area.
