Kudos to OP for epic post.
![]() The info about racing applications of the S65 is staggering. Just wow. If engines could be envious, there would be a lot of it out there. ![]()

Very good idea. The 4.4 is an amazing runner. Extremely free and smooth, even by BMW standards.

Definitely. You are welcome to spend some time behind the wheel. Please let me know the next time you're in Texas (or close?) and you're welcome to drop your butt into the driver's seat. The dozen or so people who've spent a few minutes in the car have all come away shaking their heads. Couple of things ... - you do have to literally drop into the seat, as the thigh bolsters are high and firm - you do have to work with a very stiff suspension - you do have to be pretty alert, as the car responds quickly ![]() - bring a camera, as it looks pretty good in person Let me know ... ![]() |

awesome race, let's hope they don't restrict the intake further for the next race or add more weight. do the sanctions not realize the competitors are vettes and ferraris?

UPDATE:
Added specs on Z4 GT-cars (P65B40) prior to 2011 season (attached FIA homologation sheets) -Removed dead Youtube links Please see original post. ---------------------------------------------------------- ABSTRACT: I came across more information regarding the P65B40 engines used in the Z4 GT(3) cars prior to the 2011 Season & Official FIA documents showing that they share the same bore & stroke as well as design as the S65. This contrasts to previous ambiguity within the community that suggested the P65B40 was derived from the P60B40 from the E46 M3 GTR. The P60B40, as far as i know from my own research, was a clean sheet design not based on any production engine (rumors suggest S62 but it is not true) & the P65B40 in the Z4 GT cars, based on this evidence was derived from the S65, not P60. However, this newfound information only shows that the P65B40 in the Z4 race car is a modified S65, but still leaves uncertain about the relation with the engine in the M3 GT2 (which incidentally also has a P65). IS THE P65 IN THE Z4 GT3 & THE P65 IN THE M3 GT2 RELATED? & TO THE S65? I've come across a multitude of sources describing the P65 in the M3 GT2. Some sources (Turner) say it is a further development of the P60 from the M3 GTR, while others (Motorsport.com, Racecar Eng.) say it is based on the S65B40 & list bore & stroke as identical to the S65. We now know the P65B40 and the P65B44 in the Z4 GT cars are derived from the S65, which makes the case for the M3 GT2 even stronger, but I have yet to come across an absolute concrete source. If someone with inside knowledge from BMW or a racing team can chime in, i'd greatly appreciate it. Any other updates, corrections, etc. are welcome but please provide credible source(s); i'd like to keep this thread as academically accurate as possible. ---------------------------------------------------------- Some of the changes made to Z4 section as follows: Quote:
