Miss fire issues.
Hello all I have 11 comp e92 m3 that I'm rebuilding.
Currently I have missfire on cylinder 8 6 7 Things I have done so far New plugs New fuel injectors Used coils that are working New altenator because I had voltage under 14 volts and still do. Brand new battery safety termial and the red portion that clips the the battery New accuators. New battery. I have swapped the coils from bank 1 to bank 2 and the missfires don't move When I clear codes and restart car it runs fine than missfires on 8 and after a bit 6 7 8 come on the code reader. Any ideas on what to do and check? I'm all out of ideas and forums to read through. Also anything to check to figure out why my voltage even when the car is on why it does not show over 14 volts? I posted a picture of the codes i got. The other codes seen are because I have no headliner in the car currently. If anyone can point me in the right direction to check please let me know. Also is there any fuses I should be checking? Grounds? Etc. Thank you for reading. |

What are the exact spark plugs you used?
What are the exact coils you used? Are these OEM?

Great! You got ISTA.
There is a misfire service routine that graphs all of the misfire info very easily. Can you post a screenshot of it running and the graph?

The search function isn't great on this forum.
So try reading up on here as I've dealt with this before myself. https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1971038 It might also be worth checking the gap on the plugs...maybe? You need to do this with a wire-gauge. Gap should be .032" to .036" and I aim for the lower end. There is a ground on the valve cover stud/bolt. Perhaps that might be contributing. I'm not confident your Lambda sensors would contribute--but worth looking at to make sure they're "logical" in reporting. You can always swap these left to right as well.

I also had an issue where the car shows low battery so I take it to autzone to charge and it was fully charged. So I think I have an electrical issue I need to figure out which also confirms with my voltage on the car never showing about 14 volts when the car is on. What can i check to figure this out?

Otherwise, I can just verify that bank 2 is all deactivated. -- Any update on checking the ground on the valve cover? It might be worth taking it off and cleaning it and re-fastening. Torque should be roughly 10Nm.

Interesting. I'm not too sure where that wire you have in your hand came from as it's not looking familiar to me.
There is a capacitor that helps with interference. It is possible you have a broken one causing these issues. But I doubt it since bank 1 is operating fine and the capacitors are in parallel. Do you have any details as to when this started happening? Was it all of a sudden? Did you make a change to something?

It was misfiring when I got it. I have new injectors plugs accuators and used coils. Where can I find that capacitor? Ima try to swap coils now to see if the codes will move than that will narrow it down to the coils which would be an easy fix. Also the ground helped me get my voltage above 14v when it is on. Now only codes is missfires and the dsc codes which I haven't looked into yet. I'm thinking it could be the actual wiring for the coils? Or mabey like you said to check the valve cover ground. And i will compression test the car Monday. Is there a special procedure I can use with ista? Or just unplug coils and plugs on the whole engine and unplug the fuel pump fuse? |

Do you have access to a bore-scope? Might be worth doing too if you get low comp. But I still lean on something electrical. If you swap coils, do it left to right. And when you start the car, verify on a cold start on that ISTA page first.

Yes. Maybe I wasn't clear on that exactly. But basically have ISTA open and running the misfire panel and start the car with plotting data.

Attempted to get the o2 off today failed going to try a torch and some pb blaster and try again tommorow hopefully it's the issue. Also the gaskets on the downpipe looked fine no cracks. I attached the graphs. Below on the cold start. I'm assuming one of the graphs which is bank 2 o2 aren't reading throwing the car into limp? And both side o2 are insanely stuck.
