GTS DCT Adapter +1L?

Hi all,

This part came up in another thread recently but there's not a lot of information on it:

https://www.m3-schmiede.de/bmw-m3-e9...tanderhoehung/

I am wondering if anybody else has installed this? It seems like a simple part (though I am not sure if it's an easy install or not) and my understanding is that it just raises the fill level in the pan, adding 1L of capacity. Others are adding capacity with a deeper/lower pan, which has other benefits (e.g., leaky gaskets), but this seems to do that without decreasing any clearance to the pan itself.

Any other feedback, experiences, thoughts, etc. are welcomed. Thanks!

You can just jack the car on the passenger side and pump in another quart without needing that extra part.

128 euro??? not bad

i've posted links to buy it yourself in my dct oil pan topic.
if i'm wrong, i can find and post this links again. it's about 30-40$ budget.

and yep, eternallx wrote correct, you can simply jack up one side and add this liter.

I just went ahead and did this. The adapter is pretty much useless.

Ha, interesting. Just saved me $128 then.

Any pro/con for this +1L? Seems like a benefit to me (extra lube, cooling?) but then why wasn’t this the fill and instruction from the factory? Will be running DCT tune, fwiw.

Additional fluid = additional heat capacity. Also helps prevent oil starvation under hard cornering G forces.

Hello, I installed the adapter.
The reason was that I did a complete DCT oil change anyway and replaced the oil pan, the side cover (was leaking) and the filter with new ones at the same time. Therefore I used the BMW M3 GTS adapter as well. Since this was installed by the factory at BMW M3 GTS, it will probably bring something, which I don't know but nice to have :-)

And the package contains the adapter, one litre DKG oil and the installation
for 128EUR incl. VAT.So not only the adapter.

Without the adapter the fluid in your transmission be only uptob 7.9 liters for the normal m3 . The adapter raises the oil level above the drain plug to pump in 1 liter to get to 8.9 Liters as in the GTS M3.

I tried to do add 1 liter without the adapter by jacking the passenger side but the fluid just pouring out , maybe overfilled from factory.
The adapter help to prevent this .

If it makes the fill a little easier then I can see it being worth something. Curious why one guy reported his shop didn’t like the fittings, though maybe a different manufacturer.

My car is approaching 50K so I’d like to give it a fluid/filter service. There’s a minor leak/weap from the bottom only so maybe that RockAuto OEM gasket (vs OE gasket and new pan) makes sense for an intermediate service.

Was it me? The shop I frequent did the extra fill without using the extra parts. Don't know how they did it, maybe they already had another method.

I ended up only adding .5L.
Not a full 1L. Cars fine, no errors.

There is also an extra Section / Info in BMW INPA Software when you have installed the GTS Adapter. First of all you run the standard process to filling up the transmisson with new Oli.

You can get the equivalent of this from Autobahn88, it’s just a banjo and banjo bolt or you can lift the rear right of the car and just fill the gearbox that way until you get the 8.8 liters into it

What fluid are you all using? Planning on OE/Pentosin myself.
I think I’ll pick up a banjo just to make the fill easier, now to find the best one.

FYI, the vendor linked in the OP is willing to sell the adapter separately. They confirmed it's made of iron and made in Germany. Iron surprises me, but that could be a translation thing, ha. I might try it out and report back. I like the idea of a GTS style adapter and the full +1L fill versus a tilt and +.5L fill, but was reluctant to go with a cheap Chinese piece.
