Hmmmmmmmm....I'd take it to the BMW dealership that installed it. If you have proof they installed it, you a) might be able to find out what they used b) might find out how to remove it and if not, c) might get them to cover the repair if they in fact did use a non-BMW standard adhesive.

Interesting thought and I do appreciate the advice but the car was sold new by South Motors BMW in Miami and purchased by me from Isringhausen in Springield, IL. The orginial owner traded it long distance for a C63 supposedly. Even if I was close to the original dealer I'm not sure they would be liable for anything. I would think they could make the argument that the spoiler was installed in such a way as to be permanent rather than interchangeable. Its a good thought I just don't think you'd get anywhere with that argument. I still can't understand why they didn't go with the performance spoiler to match all the other accessories

I'm sorry to read about the turn of events regarding your venture. Should you ultimately decide to let your newly acquired replacement go, I'd certainly jump in to take it off your hands.

This sucks. I would put the $ into an aftermarket boot lid then work on the OEM trunk as a side project. Could be worse I guess.

I Still think it's white silicone. Which is similar to the body shop's gasket maker guess. I've removed silicone from paint with a plastic putty knife, some heat, and a lot of rubbing/elbow grease.

I agree with IND, that's too expensive, you should get another estimate.

There have been a few OEM trunks for sale in the forum. Maybe just post a WTB?

If the clear coat is still in tact, the sanded area can be repaired (wet sand and polish).

repaint trunk or just go aftermarket. 800 to repaint a trunk is very high. 500 tops.

Plenty of FS threads for E90/E92 trunks in here. That would be my route.

You're right, there are quite a few actually. Unfortunately most are on the West coast and don't want to ship. Anybody in the Midwest want to sell me their AW trunk? If not, I'm just going to make an appointment at the body shop when I get back to the US next week.

Just to update, car is at the shop. Should get it back by thursday. In the meantime, I guess I got a little gun shy about the Performance spoiler so I ordered some white vinyl to see if I could subdue the carbon fiber some. The color match is, of course, not perfect but I think it will give me a good idea if I want to have it painted or just go with the whole CF look. In any case, I think the wrap turned out pretty well.

You can see the color mismatch when compared to the original AW spoiler. Thats a scrap piece of the vinyl on there.

Definitely have it painted IMO. But I am biased because I don't care for unpainted carbon fiber.

Ahhhhh....... so relieved to have the car home and that mess cleaned up. They told me not to wax the trunk for 60 days so I'm assuming I shouldn't mount up the spoiler during that time as well. I forgot to ask so anybody care to chime in? I guess I'll probably just wait til spring.

What ended being the fix? re-paint? I'm about to remove the factory spoiler on my car, but it does not look like yours.

Are you satisfied with the match? In those pics, it looks like it might be off a bit. If you ever plan to remove the spoiler without damaging the paint, you should wait.

Yes, repaint. I haven't heard of anyone having the disaster I had removing the factory spoiler.

Well, I was satisfied until you said that. I did inspect it under full sunlight when I picked it up and it looked right to me then. I'll have to take another critical look tomorrow. Yeah, I think the spoiler install will happen in the spring to give the paint a chance to fully cure.

lol, sorry about that! The trunk just looks a little brighter white to me. In that second picture, it looks like the rear quarter has a bit more yellow. If it looks good to you that's all that matter though, pictures can be deceiving!

should have tried using a heat gun to soften and sort of melt the adhesive. Thats what i did when i removed a spoiler and switched it for another. Just be careful not to melt the paint.
