The CSB doesn't have anything to do with the cowbell noise. But yes it can be replaced if it is bad.

I had a customer in for a bunch of work, I heard the cow bell noise on his car.

I decided to drop his mid-pipe and try this since it was easy and tighten this nut, his CSB looked in good shape rubber wise, after driving the car, I confirmed that it fixed the noise for him.

Saved him $500-1000 that another shop would have probably charged him for if they convinced him to replace the CSB or worse if they recommend a new driveshaft.

Needless to say, he was happy.

Was a DCT, so it was in P.

If you needed to turn it to get access, you can probably use the parking brake.

Side job.

It's the 3rd car I did this to, doesn't always work as it could be a bad ujoint or a bad csb also, just sharing my experince, in that case it's better to replace worn parts, then while putting the two halves together make sure to tq the bolt.

No fire required. I pulled mine with a 5 ton hydraulic puller from HF just to break it free initially.

Use a press or a puller, that's a silly way to get it done. Can't believe an actual shop does it that way. I wouldn't let them touch my car.

Hi, thank you for the tip. I have the same cowbell noise in my car and just removed the driveshaft to inspect it. Flex disc and CV joint seem to be fine. Center support bearing has very minimal play. I will be replacing it, though it seems that should not be the cause of the cowbell noise.

Shouldn't I be able to to see a little bit of play at the center joint where the splines are? When I try to twist the two parts of the driveshaft everything feels very firm.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

If it is only happening at the gear 1-2 or reverse mostly it is the same issue buddy.

Correct, only happens in first and second gear and also when reversing, also the noise seems to be coming from front of the car rather than middle or back side. I will get it checked this week, thanks.

No such luck for me.

About had the CSB replaced yesterday, rubber looked good. Tightened the nut and the noise still persisted. I'm under the impression I'll need to replace the driveshaft if I want to get rid of the noise. Good news is there are options are they're not crazy expensive. The labor is almost as much as the part depending on which route (part) you go.
