OEM+ exhaust options?

Hey all - my car currently has an AA rear section but honestly, I'm not a fan of the tone and want to change it out. It's definitely deeper sounding but I tend to prefer a bit more OEM/higher pitch sound.

I believe it's this one:
https://store.activeautowerke.com/pr...nature-exhaust

https://**********s.com/active-autow...3-e90-e92-e93/ (mod bargains link)

Anyway, first option is to go back to 100% OEM muffler/tips but I'm considering a modded stock muffler. Eventually, I'd like to delete only the primary cats and keep everything else OEM (or OEM modded muffler) and make it "reversible" but want to take this step for now.

So on to the question - I've looked up numerous youtube videos for sound; test pipes vs xpipe, etc. what's the best way to achieve what I'm looking for, paired w/ an OEM muffler??

If anyone wants to trade their OEM (modded or stock) muffler + cash for my AA muffler pm me.

I think OEM exhaust mod sounds terrible with TP or Xpipe. The best sound for an OE muffler seems to be TP/Xpipe + OEM exhaust unmodded.

So for people who want the ability to return to stock (for inspections and such) do they normally do x-pipes or test pipes? Seems TP's are easier install but there's cutting and fire paste involved lol

I bought my car with JUST a resonator delete and for stock muffler and cats it sounds modded for sure, not too loud but definitely not quiet

What he said... can't go wrong with stock x pipe and MPE.. the stock x pipe is a real nice piece from BMW, the weight savings of the MPE and sound is legit. OEM+ doesn't get any better than this.

Best option for that I've seen is to get test pipes but with vbands installed to make swapping back and forth easy.

Yes, but there is zero performance benefit with that route. TP is 20-25whp, more with a tune. Best bang for the buck performance mod on these cars, you won't find a cheaper way to get ~20whp.

Or just go the x-pipe route w/ the OEM rear section, correct?

I always interpreted oem+ as not screwing with emissions.. if you're gonna tune and cut off cats it's just modding... the car will run well with a nice muffler and stock x... you wanna go squeeze some hp it'll come at the cost of smell and possible efficiency.. my car has a lot of mods but before I smogged it last I put back on stock x with an akra and I really liked how it ran... anyone looking for oem+ would be happy with that.

Very familiar with Akra, I ran the full evo exhaust on my e90 a few years ago. Thinking I just want a different sound now. A bit more oem which to me is "higher pitch".
