I think his point was that the car was maybe critically low on oil but the sensor failed to warn about it. It did apparently sense an overfill, however.

Maybe OP really did just removed 1 drain plug and was too embarrassed to admit it after coming and making this post.

I really don't see how cranking the engine a couple of times will "release" the remaining 7 quarts. How can 7 quarts be magically trapped somewhere?

If 7L of oil was lost over the winter for some reason, he would have seen a flooded garage or leakage elsewhere, but none of that was reported. Writing around midnight half-asleep doesn't help.
