Does painting car different color = Decrease in Value

Guys,
I've had my car about a year and a half and am getting bored with the color. My question to you is if I decide to have it repainted a different finish, would that decrease the value of it? If so, how much? I'm not sure if when the time comes for me to sell it if that would be a major issue with potential buyers. I currently have an IB and was thinking Fire Orange. I know the simple answer is to sell the IB and buy a Fire Orange, but my car is paid off and don't want to take on another car payment. Thanks for any feedback.

I would say yes, it will decrease the value. How much? Depends on what you sell it for! You can't really give a great comparison because people sell their cars for such different prices. If you really want to paint it, do it for you. Don't do it for the resell.

^Agree. I will say I would never buy a car that has been repainted a different color. I love factory options and also very much dislike aftermarket radios etc.

you will lose value. But to an enthusiast, that work you put it COULD possibly yield an ok selling price..

Repainted car is a major red flag: big accident? rust? Not to mention the quality will never be as good as factory. My opinion..

Exactly, it will raise a lot of questions. I like the idea a poster suggested of doing a wrap. If you were planning on keeping the car a long time, then paint it. But if you're concerned about resale, it's always going to be a negative.

I agree with most of the above. I think there are far more negatives than positives.

If you really wanted to change the color of the car, do a wrap so that you can have some different yet is fully reversible later on.

Yep i agree with the wrap - perspective buyers might actually pay more - two cars for the price of one!
