This, as the M3 bonnet is alu it is a lighter strut than the standard 3 series. Mine is becoming soft enough to just let the bonnet go from a few decimeters to close. Maybe time to change? (although its quite comfy closing it)

For 22 bucks you should consider trying these. They work just fine. They wont fly up out of control, its just stiff pushing it back down but the old oem ones were so soft the hood would slam down on my head unless propped up. Its not so much that its a problem thats really a big deal and it wont deform the hood.

I have no issues closing my hood with the 3 Series struts, then again I very rarely open my hood.

My FCP Euro order arrived and the hood strut was the correct part with 200N eject force. It is a BMW branded part made by Stabilus and is cheaper than at ECS Tuning. Photo attached.

-------------------------------------------------------------
FCP Euro seems to be the best place for the BMW part (51237900795) at $66.89. HINT; leave the parts in the basket for a few days and they may send you a 5% off code.

Ordered the Deflection Pulley INA-5320605100 the other day for my 2011 E90, but the original bolt doesn't fit in the pulley, nor does the suggested bolt (07119906591).

Did anyone else try to replace their original deflection pulley with this suggested one and it worked?

There's two variants, one has a off-centered hole and the other is in the center - compare both

Yep, I did. The one I took out of my engine was the center one, as was the part I ordered, INA-5320605100. The bolt just could not fit through. Seems like the inner diameter was just a bit smaller than the original.

I uploaded a comparison here:

The left pulley being the original, along with the bolt suggested (07119906591). The one on the right is INA-5320605100, which I could not thread the bolt through.

I ended up getting a Duralast idler pulley (part 231161) that was suggested in another thread, and the bolt threaded through fine. Been driving it for a week now with no problems so far.

Is there an OEM alternative for the front strut guides/top hats? The BMW ones seem classically overpriced for what they are at ~$240/pair.

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...h/31302283650/

Also, any idea how robust these are? Mine don't given any obvious indication of wear, but I am about to install Dinan camber plates so wondering if it's worth replacing these "while I'm in there." 2011, 50K miles, ZCP ...

Unfortunately that part is only available from BMW. You can carefully pry it open and there is a replaceable bearing inside, but I've never been able to locate the internal bearing for sale (post it if you can find it). I found my internal bearing to be in good condition at 50k miles before switching to GC street camber plates which have a similar, but smaller bearing. Some on here have suggested to open the bearing, clean it out and re-grease the ball bearings. Here is what it looks like inside:

Fantastic idea for a thread!

One addition for you, which you actually already have linked in your ZF oil pdf .
Castrol Syntrans B 75W is a direct replacement for LTF 2, and was originally the recommended oil by BMW, Castrol's data sheet still shows this.
Also the oil's viscosity ratings exactly match Castrol BOT 338's oil as shown in their SDS pdf, section 9.1 and listed in the ZF TE-ML 11 pdf.
Currently, the cheapest place to buy 1 ltr bottles of these in the UK is Broughton Lubricants, followed closely by Opie oils.

Btw, where did you see that MTF LT5 is the current recommended oil for the M3s? I thought it was still MTF LT2? At least that's what newTIS says....

^ My read of that link is that the currently recommended fluid is MTF-LT-3 for road cars and MTF-LT-2 for motorsport applications.

If you meant Motorsport, as in M spec cars, that's what I was thinking.

Happy to be corrected, but I think in this context “Motorsport” means race cars.

Hmm, ok, I'm not sure now tbh! lol

Anyway, I looked up the viscosity specs of the 2 oils recently, theirs very little in it, the LTF2 is right at the bottom edge of an 80w oil, whilst the LT3 is at the top end of the 75w spec. 7.3 cS vs ~6.2Cs, if you care .

[edit] Ok that's wierd, you're post has disappeared Theodore!

The M3 has the ZF S6-53 , not the 35, that's where you're getting the wrong oil type from. (Btw, secondary air injection & EGR are 2 different things).
That oil is inbetween the grades for LT 2 & 3 though, so it's not going to make much difference. Although strangely originally only for DCTs, later PDFs shows it's for MTs too.
RealOEM seems to be confused over whether it's meant to have LT2 or 3, & conflicts (I think) with the newTIS. lol.

Anyway, I decided the difference was so small between LT2 & 3 it wasn't worth worrying about, I used the LT2 direct replacement Castrol Syntrans B 75W in both my 330d E90 & M3 e92.
Which theoretically would give very slightly heavier gear changes but slightly better protection (made the changes lighter in my 330d, probably because it had never been changed though!).

Has anyone tried the Behr replacement radiator? That part number comes up for a 330i and not M3. I checked realOEM and the 330i has a different part number from the M3 radiator.

Updates and corrections for Original Equipment (OE) Equivalents:

BMW E9X M3 Manual Transmission Fluid (BMW MTF-LT-2) = Pentosin MTF2 75W-80 (no longer in production)

BMW E9X M3 radiator - exact equivalent not available

Err, as I said earlier
MTF LT2 also = Castrol Syntrans B 75W (to name 1 of 3 others), as per ZFs own pdf "List of lubricants TE-ML 11", oil still available!
