Winter Warm Up & Vibration
Started the car the other evening after about ~2 weeks of not driving it in about 30 degree weather - I gave 1-2 mins of warm up via low speed drive to the highway entrance, low RPM, before getting on the highway (~60mph, nothing crazy)
On the highway, the entire car was vibrating from what I assume was the engine trying to warm up, is this normal? Once the oil warmed up and got to temp, this stopped. Moving forward I'll wait until the oil temp gauge starts moving, but was stunned as I've never owned a car that needed thicker than 30 - 5w50 is in the M3 now. |

Wouldn't hurt to visually inspect your engine mounts. Mine were beyond toast and I've since had no vibration whatsoever from the engine, even when cold now that I replaced them.

This. These cars definitely go through engine mounts - I've seen people showing them looking pretty toast at 40k miles. It's a big, angry engine so that might be your issue.

I’m thinking tires too. If you plan on driving in the cold frequently I would recommend a set of AS 3+ tires. Even when warmed up, the summer tires in addition to being hard will be slick in 20-30 degree temps. Yeah you can get from a to b but any kind of performance driving can be dangerous.
Your best bet for warm up is to drive it under 3000 rpm. If you just let it idle until oil gauge starts moving, you could be waiting a long time at 30 degrees. |

My car does this - it's the tires. To combat it, I keep the pressure at 35 throughout, and that makes it go away. Check your pressure.

I love how tail happy my Ventus RS4s are when cold. Almost did a powerslide with a cop in the opposite lane
