Ugh.....how to get this out?
So was removing the oil separator to redo a few of the valve cover screws, when one of the Blue screws I noticed was broken and shaft still in the hole (see yellow circle).
Any suggestions on how to get this out? Am hoping I can try a left handed screw.....or maybe even loctite a peg to the bolt shaft and try to get it out. These are fairly low torque fasteners, so am hoping it's easy to dislodge. P.S. I'm usually very good with fasteners and not overtorquing......and recently had my rod bearings done.....does the plenum come off during the RB?...or are they able to do this all from underneath the car? |

Theres kits for extracting bolts. I've done it twice with success. In short, drill a hole down the center of the bolt, the turn in the extraction bit and the bolt turns out..

I've used these extraction kits before and they've worked great.. as long as you can get a good angle on the head of that bolt you should be able to get it out without too much hassle.

Plenum doesnt come off.
dont fish for reasons to blame the shop. just use a pick and slowly turn the broken piece out till you can get it by hand. It's not tight.

Thanks. Just started getting a code 2738 along with a few misfires (2b41, 2b39, 2b3a, 2b3c)..........is it possible that I'm getting a vacuum leak from the oil separator that is throwing off my Manifold Pressure sensor?

So an update on this. I was able to get this out no problem, and instead of using bolt extractors, went instead with a Left-hand threaded drill bit.
After two turns, the sucker was already starting to get worked out of the hole and was able to grab it and hand thread it out. Big thanks to the internet for the use of Left handed drill bits. |

Threads were all good.
I probably should have taken another pic of the bolt fully out...but I think I was jumping for joy at that point and forgot to take the pic. New bolt screwed in just perfectly, with no problems. Used these left-hand bits from Irwin: Last edited by kimiraikkonen; 12-05-2018 at 03:16 PM.. |
