That is weird they used 2.5” resonators on 3” piping. You could change to 3” resonators but that would cost $150 if you can weld and $300 if you cannot and could make them harder to fit without risk of rubbing something.

Yea the 4 to 1 collector also chokes down to 2.5" before opening up to 3" for the mid section.

Compared to the stock system i don't see it being restrictive.

Using an “undersized” resonator is a common anti rasp strategy

Interesting. But isn’t flow limited to the that of the smallest point?

Further back you go, less pipe diameter you need for the same flow rate because the gas is cooler

But I wouldn’t suggest they did the testing like evolve did to actually find the best placement and size seems like “resonators go here on this car so that’s where they are on our pipe”

I remember someone saying the gaskets these type of headers come with are usually not good and to use oem gaskets.

The OEM gasket is slightly smaller than the ports on the headers, assuming the exhaust ports on the head are the same size as the gaskets i don't see this being a problem so I'll probably still use the oem gaskets if that is the case when i remove the headers:

This is what the Becker gasket looks like:

The OEM gasket is bigger than the head exhaust port. The port is the limiting factor. It should not matter whether the gasket is a little smaller than the header opening.

the hardware that comes with these kind of exhausts are terrible.
judging by the photo that you have taken the OEM gasket is just fine. Even if its a mm undersized it shouldn't be a big problem. had the same kind of experience back when the e46 m3 headers on ebay were a hot item.

Stuck at 70%, almost there, thank you for all that have contributed so far.
The plan is to hopefully dyno this weekend and start the install right after that.

Pretty sure they are just polished
I plan to try to reuse most of the heat sheilds, even if it involves some cutting, but we'll see once I get to the install.

I agree, I plan to use the OEM gaskets. From pictures I have seen, the exhaust ports are smaller than the gaskets so no big deal.

Exchanges like that are one reason I have no interest in Facebook. Unfortunately, chat seems to be the way of the future and forums where people generally take the time to think about what they write before they write it are losing popularity.

I couldn't wait any longer, I want to install the headers, so I went and got the before dyno today.

For comparison, N/A S65 cars on this dyno have made 333whp and 369whp, no idea what mods they had or what temps were or if it was SAE or STD.

ESS625 kit with primary cat delete made 527whp

For what its worth being an amazon / ebay setup, I have the becker full catless exhaust system (which is a steal at $950 when I bought it) and after 2-3 years its holding up fine. Only downside I had was the catback had to be extended an inch so the elbow wouldn't rest on the diff. Also, the gaskets it came with are trash, I got misfires in almost all cylinders.

Tempted to possibly buy the headers if the dyno results are promising.

Those numbers seem odd, thats what a stock M3 puts down. Of course dyno to dyno comparisons aren't equal, but my car with your same mods made 380whp and 275tq as do most M3's with test pipes and a tune.

If you install the headers and then happen to make 380ish whp its going to look like the headers and x-pipe alone added 40 more hp. When in fact your "baseline" numbers are off for some reason.
