Currently waiting on the details waiting on Europe Bm Shop to reply. This is the first time coming across someone that is manufacturing a lightweight flywheel for E9x M3s, i will try to get as much info as i can. The most important thing i will ask about is if the product has been tested, the wieght difference along with what material its made of (from what i see it looks like cnc aluminum).

The pictures added is a direct message between me and Europe Bm Shop, i am a enthusiast trying to share what i think would be a good performance mod. If anyone has some knowledge they would like to share please do so or any questions please ask. I will update as soon as i get more details.

Also makes your car into a racecar and makes all the noises I think...

Can someone give a technically briefing on the benefits?

Less rotating mass on the engine meaning it will rev faster but also the rev will drop faster because of less weight to keep it spinning. The F8x flywheel is also about 10lbs lighter than the E9x flywheel, it’s been done before on the 335is dct gearbox. I’m not sure if it’s worth cost aside.

Still waiting on more info from BM Shop, the oem flywheel is dual mass so going single mass will be a benefit itself.

Sounds like around 40% reduction in weight plus or minus a bit. I’m curious what the pros are on this - seems like if it was a noticeable improvement with no added issues it would be a more popular mod for track dedicated cars. There have been a few out for awhile but they just don’t seem to have fared very well in the market. Maybe too much negative outweighing the positive?

We all know there is going to be a sacrifice on installing certain mods, i daily my E92 M3 with TMS aluminum engine/transmission mounts it is a bit rowdy. Im trying to get as much info as possible to ensure our vehicles will benefit from this mod, i think the flywheel will be a bit louder but i would be able to live with that over some nice gains.

likely will clatter at idle and cause some NVH, for a racecar should be fine, but I'm never doing a ltw flywheel again on a street car unless it is confirmed to be dead quiet.

For a full out track car or if you don't care about noises, then sure you'll get a slight improvement. I'm more interested on those set of Cams in the pic. Now that is a mod I might do.

Is the F8x also the same Getrag gearbox, maybe slightly upgraded to handle the S55 torque?

I have seen a few DCT pans advertising that they work for both the F8x and the E9x, which makes me assume that they're the same.

While this gearbox is still very fast on upshifts compared to modern DCTs, the downshifts are a bit slower and I'd imagine it's because of this big ol' flywheel. The F8x upshifts are comparable but the engine feels much lighter on downshifts.

Is there any media of an E9x with a lightweight flywheel downshifting so we could see the difference?

I changed the flywheel on my dct couple of weeks ago and never knew that there was an OEM lighter option. My car is an 08 production and the difference between the OEM flywheels is a bit crazy 12.6 kg (27.78lbs) vs 8.9 kg (19.62). The shifting is smoother espacially between 2nd and 3rd and the car revs more freely. I think there is a bit of loss in torque on high end but might be placebo, if anyone can add the technical inputs it would be appreciated to make a decision if even a lighter one is really needed.
