Regarding OEM exhaust mod....

What size are the needed pipes inside to replace the perforated pipes? Checked the DIY section and didn't find a definitive answer.

Thanks.

Is a one foot length of stainless enough to do both sides? It looks like it, but looks can be deceiving in pictures....

If you're doing the 4pipe mod get two feet to be safe.

4 pipe? I thought it was just the 2 perforated pipes that needed to come out?

There's 2 pipes with a lot of perforation and there's 2 other pipes with only a little perforation.

Got it, the two that are lightly wrapped in fiberglass I assume? I think I am just going to do the 2 pipe, so I guess one foot of stainless will do the trick.

One more quick question, does the grade of stainless make a difference, I would guess not, but just asking the question.

To be safe for the 2 big perforated pipe replacement you need 1.5 foot ( 45 cm )
And for the the 2 big + 2 small (all 4) pipe replacement you need 2 foot ( 60 cm )

You should not be worried about the price , the pipe will be about $10-15 .

Thanks, you've been a great help!!! I ordered 2ft just to be on the safe side ($25 shipped), it should be here Monday, so I'll update this thread on my thoughts Monday. I currently have the CNT race exhaust and I am not too thrilled about it..... I am having someone do the welding for me, I will definitely make sure they add the insulation back in before welding it shut!!

I'm about to do the OEM muffler mod also, but I'm wondering why people just don't wrap thin aluminum or stainless steel AROUND the perforation sections and hold them in place with hose clamps. No cutting or welding INSIDE required and totally reversible if next owner wishes.

???

Some people have used titanium header wrap with hose clamps with good success before.

Wrap it and weld it or use clamps. No need to cut them, it's easier. But if you wanna go back stock just buy from ebay why re-do the cutting and welding I'm sure many people would love to buy modded oem muffler around $200.

UPDATE: I had this done at a muffler shop today. Definitely NOT a DIY for this guy. The shop was really cool and let me stand by (help a little) while the tech did it. The guy who did mine had to put a slight bend in the left side pipe which is something I wouldn't have been able to do. After replacing both perforated sections, I pulled back on the steel wool wrapping the other two less perforated pipes (the 2.5 method), he wire welded in the new sections, then wire welded the muffler shut. It took him about 2 hours and charged me $195. It's quite DEEPER sounding and louder.

I think it sounds similar to a 5.0 liter V8 Mustang.
