BMW M Performance Drive Analyser

Is anyone using this?

https://www.bmw-m.com/en/topics/accessoires/m-apps.html

I know it is a bit expensive (cheaper in the UK - shock) but video and data capture is really quite clever. You can run through all of the captured parameters while viewing the raw video, or see them displayed on a route map. Great for track day analyses.

The exported video shows the main parameters, including gear selected, torque/power, etc.

Question: One of the displays shows torque.

Does anyone know whether this is derived from:

(A) the theoretical torque curve, with adjustment related to throttle opening?
Or
(B) is it measuring actual acceleration, detecting the chosen gear (which it can do based on road speed/engine revs) and calculating the real torque, as opposed to theoretical? It has data on vehicle weight in its database.

The reason I ask is that I can get 295 ft-lbs showing without using full throttle (maybe 85-90% open).

I have not found a way yet, of configuring the gauge range, so that it can display numbers greater than 295 (and 420ps on the power gauge), which would be interesting.

TIA

This looks cool but not available for e92 models, at least not in the US.

Not sure about US availability but it definitely works in my E92 M3.

Initially I tried to order it on-line (via the link embedded in the sales pitch) but this necessitated a German dealer address for delivery. So I went to my (UK) dealer and asked them to order it for me. Arrived in about 4 days.

The video recording is cool - select record and it only starts when the car moves, and continues until it stops. There is loads of interesting data that is then captured along with the video.

Anyone know what the maximum ignition advance should be?

My car feels really strong since the 2013 ECU update (to the latest spec, I believe) and I would be interested to know whether (and how often) it now achieves maximum advance.

I was a bit loose with my description - this was the 240E update, so the last released version and it is dated sometime in 2013 (November from memory)

Hi Jeff

Is there any way of changing the range of numbers on the torque and power gauges, to allow readings of >295 ft-lbs and >420ps?

Itīs a nice gimmick from BMW.
But, if you want that information without lokking at a smartphone, take a look at this:
http://shop.ak-motion.com/en/modelle...splay-e9x.html
You all know the Awron Display, the AK-Motion is better (cheaper, more functions, you can update it)
