Finally bought it
So I finally bought the car. It’s now at my mechanic’s place and they will start to work on it next week.
53K km 2009, registered in 2010 Two owners, first owner had the car for 13 years with full service record from BMW. Last owner selling to get a Cayman. The following will be done 1. Refurbish 4 rims 2 four new tires Pilot Sport S 3 new brake discs and pads 4 rod bearings ( not needed yet but doing it anyways 5 engine mounts 6 complete fluid flush. 7 oil pan gasket 8 brake vacuum pipes 9 spark plugs 10 throttle body gasket 11 cam cover gaskets L/R 12 body dent / paint repair driver side door 13 intake engine head clean ( dry ice ) incl. throttle body. Anything else I should look at ? I’m considering Apple CarPlay Air intake or BMC filter drop in X-pipe ( suggestions ? ) My mechin has a supercharger for sale but I’ll enjoy the car oem first before I jump the gun on that ;-) |

What’s the difference in the rod bearings. My mechanic a BMW tuner here probably one of the best in Shanghai states that the improved OEM are equally good as BE and others. He is only using the improved OEM on his customers cars including his own super charged E9x

The updated oem bearings are not necessarily improved. Europe banned the use of lead in automotive parts so the original oem bearings with lead had to be redesigned without lead. The same dimensions and clearances are likely identical between the two oem bearings. https://www.bimmerworld.com/Engine/E...s-S85-V10.html https://marmotorsport.com/wp-content...S85-Iss.-2.pdf Last edited by M3SQRD; 05-01-2024 at 09:32 AM.. |

Most of us have been under the impression that the OE shells are tighter than they recently turned out to be (still tigher than 3rd party "extended" shells but nothing near claimed dimensions). I'd have some more discussions on the subject with your mechanic, listen to his reasoning and experience (if any from 3rd party vendors) and go from there. You're on 53k km, take your time and get a good solution. Good luck! |

Congrats! good job on getting all the maintenance done first.
You probably wont get much out of an intake vs the drop in filter. I did install an AFE intake just for the noises, no power gains.

I found a used Karbonius plenum and intake which I just bought. I really just want it for the sound. This M3 isn’t exactly super fast anyways. It’s just fun to drive. My X5 is faster 😜😜 |
