E92 M3 All weather or just summer???

I have finally decided to get inline with buying an M3 when it finally comes out next year, but my question is how good (or bad) is the m3 going to be during those cold and snowy winter months. Is the M going to be a summer and spring ride or am I going to have to get a WRX for winter and fall and M3 for summer and spring. What do you guys think?? over 400HP rear wheel drive and snow dont exactly mix. I could be wrong....

my M3 is close to useless in the cold and wet.. imagine adding 100+ more HP!

My 330i ZHP was completely USELESS in the snow - even with DSC. Then I bought 17" Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50's and a set of winter rims. Now I can run with the trucks and SUV. If you've never experienced great snow tires on a BMW, you wouldn't believe tires would make THAT much of a difference. I didn't believe it either. It is AWESOME.

I imagine the E92 M3 is going to require a little more finesse, but with DSC and a gentle foot, WITH some Blizzaks, I'll get by ok for a few months during snow. They don't sport-perform too well on the dry stuff, but I can put up with it.

I usually keep the beast in during the winter and wet weather. With the right gear, I am sure the M3 can hold its own summer or winter.

Well, it looks like I should consider getting a winter car, I know the tires will definitely help, but all that added power will have a negative affect in the winter. Thanks for the tire advice, but I dont know if driving my m3 in the winter will be a good idea. maybe ill get a used quattro or something. Or maybe someone knows of some winter tire roundup with high HP cars. thanks guys

Of course you can get a nice Quattro known as the RS4. Great wintercar, lots of power.

Is the RS4 (with good winter tires) actually that good of a full on winter car? Sure it has a great 4WD system but it is still low, stiff, high hp, sensitive throttle, etc. Perfect for a summer sports car but winter? Not doubting, just inquiring.

I had an E46 M3. Got caught in a flash snow storm with 3 inches on the floor and had to park my precious M in a McDonalds parking lot until 12pm the next day.

Needless to say..I am waiting for my RS4. Makes sense if you are in a cold climate and saftey is an issue. Cant wait to see what the M3 will come with when it is available.

It's all about tires. The RS4 will not be much better in the snow than the M3 with similar high performance tires.

Without them it doesn't really matter what you drive, no grip, no drive

Well all wheel drive makes a significant difference over just rear wheel. All season performance tires + all wheel = great performace in the snow. I have an X5..great performace in snow with the attributes mentioned.

when i had my Audi A6 w/ performance tires, i was sliding everywhere in the snow. but when i put snow tires on it was a whole new experience. full traction w/ quattro and snow tires means lots of fun in snow conditions.

i am currently driving a C55 w/ snow tires and it performs quite well. C55 has almost 370 hp so i would think it will be similar to the M3.

Make sure you buy decent rims on the snow tires, and not cheapo ones.

If you live in the city then there shouldn't be a problem.

But, if you have a cottage in snowbound areas, or like to go to ski resorts, then I'd invest on an X5 as a winter car.

My general rule is that if the accumulation of snow gets past 3 inches, park the M. But, I've driven the car through blizzards before....very, very carefully.

It helps that the car terrific road feel, and will let you know when you're about to end up in a ditch.

It's not an ideal winter car, but good snow tires + careful driving and you should be able to get by with the M. :rocks:
