Carbon craftsmanship input

Hey guys,

A friend of mine created an OE looking hood and trunk in CF for one his buddy's F82 M4, as a one off. He did this as a side project, and has never really worked on BMW's. I think it came out great and I'm trying to encourage him to do more and to get back into automotive composite making and creating some stuff with, especially M cars.

I couldn't tell you the process he used, as I'm not well versed on these things but I do know he was trained in France. I do know the cars owner asked for the V/reverse pattern with the CF down the middle and my friend says it can be done in many different looks/patterns.

Any input from you guys is appreciated regarding the fit/workmanship etc, good or bad and I will link him/let him know.

side note: **The car isn't ours, and we don't like the color for the cf trunk and hood, as it clashes bit too much if it were to stay in complete cf, but this is the only example I have of his work**

The fitment is pretty good, you can tell it's not OE but it's definitely above the average craftsmanship/fitment.

Care to share how much does this hood and truck cost? Or maybe potential sale price?

the new "pedestrian safety standards hoodline" is not as copasetic to a full carbon hood as previous gens, but still a high quality set

The hood bulge on the E92 M3 hood is quite hard to get right. A lot of the replica CF hoods have bulges which look weird.

Thanks for the compliment. He still isn't ready to sell at the moment. So I wouldn't even know what he would ask for them in the future. I am trying to convince him to with all the compliments you guys are giving....

Thanks, I think he has a talent and thats why I would love for him to do some products, even in smaller quantities. He is currently in Canada with an eye to move to the USA in the future...

That looks pretty good. On his next one tell him to try using 1x1 weave to match the factory roof, although 1x1 is notoriously more difficult to manipulate around sharper corners and curves. The 2x2 he used is what is giving the panels a diagonal striping in the weave.

Will pass on the message and if he makes anything vehicle related I will be sure to post. Thanks!

Quality and fitment are excellent for CF piece. With respect to fitment, the factory itself does a mediocre job with the hood/trunk/body panel gaps.

some is an understatement! I tried messing with cf myself and it's very hard, don't know how pre-preg stuff is. I would love to learn and make stuff like that one day! I told my wife if we ever move and I no longer work as a firefighter I will learn how to make that stuff and open up my own business lol

update ...
He did make a few things for the e46 M3 and a lip for the e9x M

CSL Diffuser, CSL 1 piece lip and flippers for the OE CSL bumper (which the crew at m3forum seem to like)... here are some pics:

He ended up making an E9x M3 lip in complete CF and here some pics
