You have an e92 M3 and a Honda Accord. You plan to be a 1 car family for a while and are considering selling the M3. Everyone here is suggesting that you pick 1 or the other (and the Accord is a far more practical choice). There is a 3rd option: Sell both the M3 and the Accord and buy a 4 door sedan that wll actually be fun to drive. Choices abound from Audi , Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, Subaru, VW, and BMW. On many of them you may need to look at Certified Pre-Owned. I put VW in because you should not overlook either the GTI or the Golf R, both of which can be had in 5 door configuration.

I was actually at buy buy baby the other day picking up some last minute supplies for our new baby due to arrive any day now and came across this car seat/stroller combo and was totally blown away and thought of this thread.

https://www.buybuybaby.com/store/pro...h-base/5006763

With this you can even do a e93 convertible no problem first 2 years.

The new A4 is great. i had a 2017 that i sold and got the m3. The main reason i sold it was because i got the lower premium trim and hated the stereo. After 2 years of driving it, i was sick of lack of bass and sound from the rear. if u go that route, get the premium plus which has the B&O stereo...so much better.

When comparing cars of this segement, the A4 was much better than the 3 series, q50, TLX. i was disappointed with the alfa.
get something fun that u can put the kid in the back!

Excellent point, I am willing to swap my E93 with you. And when babies are all grown up we can swap back. Just try to refrain from diaper leakage is all I ask. When can you make the swap? I'm available any time so just PM me.

As a previous Audi Avant owner, I have to recommend the Allroad. It's an A4 with a bit of a height add and all that WAGON.

That was meant for OP but sure I'm in. And I appreciate the offer but I would not accept any cash on top, we are all friends here. And you can keep the diapers, I'm only 50 (in a few days) I don't need them yet. PM me and we can work out the finer details.

OP, congrats and best wishes for a safe delivery and healthy child.

When our first was born, 35 years ago, our only car was a Celica. We had no problem with a baby seat or other contraptions, and we kept it long enough for the boy to give it a name: Froggy Car.

Your Honda is a nice, practical vehicle. Your M3, according to MotorTrend a few years back, was "the greatest all-around car in the world." You can drive the M sedately, like any 3-Series. It's got safety features galore. Add a family hauler in a year or two when you get a promotion.

That same son and his wife are expecting their first in July. Maybe his two-door Audi will be the new Froggy Car.

I bought an E90 M3 when my wife was 6 months pregnant. My son is now almost 5 months old - not once has he cried in the back seat, not once do we complain about loading and unloading his car seat, and not once have we ran out of room even with our baby bag, stroller, and random necessities when traveling with an infant. It's 100% do-able.

Thanks, all, for the input and for the offers to swap. I've read all the comments a few times while thinking about what to do over the past few weeks.

My wife and I have been talking more about it. Fortunately, she understands how much I love the car and don't want to see it go. She is fine with either selling or keeping.

One thing I may not have made clear is that since I am walking to work and she is off for a long time, we don't expect to need to put a baby seat in it in a rush every day. It's just if we are going somewhere as a family or if she is going somewhere for leisure (outside walking distance) that we would use the car.

I've still decided to list the car and see if I can get any good offers. If i do, I'll sell it. If I only get lowballers offering me 10k less than what it is worth to me, I'll keep it and sell the Accord hybrid (they sell rediculously quickly - we had 3 sell out from under us before we bought this one).

My price check thread for the m3 is over in the Canada section, and is in Canadian dollars for any of you willing to be of further assistance. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1508734

when I had my kids I drove an e36 m3 sedan and my wife had the 325i. it worked out fine. I had to trade in the car for the mother in law though. she tagged along with us everywhere we went and I felt bad having her cramped in the back seat. Now that she doesn't tag along anymore I bought back my M3 sedan after a 10 year sabbatical. I now have an E90.

I'll say this:

My sister in Barcelona daily drives my old 330Ci, 5MT, with two kids since they were newborns. It can definitely be done. Once the kids are two years old it's even easier to handle as they climb into the back themselves and can buckle up.

Heh, I reluctantly sold my 911 and bought my M3 to better fit my family. I have a toddler and one more on the way. Plenty of room for all 4 of us in the M3. Luggage too. The Porsche not so much.

Congratulations!

If you're looking for SUV benefits with none of the SUV, how about a wagon? There are some bad ass wagon options out there.

Why can't you rent a garage downtown or an extra space and drive it every couple of weeks?

Sell the Honda, hang on to the M3 for awhile after the baby is born (congrats btw!) and see how the coupe works out for you. Some are good with it, others not - see which ya'll fall into. Find a rear facing seat with good safety rating that fits & give it a try - it will always carry over to the next car if you decide to make a change so no money loss there.

I personally went from 2 doors to 4 for this same reason but many have no issues with it. Being that you love the M3 you have now would think it's worth a shot though.

If it's your perfect M3 without compromise, then do not let it go.

I daily drove an E36 M3 for 3 years with 2 kids. For the first year you will be using a "pumpkin" seat which are relatively easy to pop in and out of the back seat. Whichever car seat you put in will likely leave an indentation in the seat. When they get older and you have to strap them in it will be harder.

Family should come first. Your decision to sell is likely the wisest. Unless your car had extremely low miles, the value likely will not increase with time.

You don't have to sell the car. I know from experience. When we had our first I had an e92 M3. We had a quick connect style infant seat system where our cars had bases mounted in the back seats and the child seat snaps in and out. It's not very difficult to get this type of seat in and out of a coupe like the e92. It wasn't ideal but it's easily doable especially if it's only for 18 mos and you're not going to have your child in the car everyday.

I didn't sell my car and we got along just fine.

This is an example.

Congrats on the little one! We had our first child in March.

I'd sell the M yesterday. If you're going down to 1 car, I'd want it something practical. Others mentioned something like an S4, that's a good idea and is hybrid between the M and the Accord.

Clean E92s will be around (and cheaper) when you're ready for another. Family first.

Yup, that's the one we brought my son home in my M3.

He's now 7 months old and aside from when my wife's X3 was in the shop he hasn't been back in my car, haha.

We had to buy a bigger stroller since though (Stokke). No chance kid can stay in that for 2 yrs.
