okay so the reason is because the M3 is brand new and still hasn't gone through the break-in period. thats my justification

I read your posts in this Forum and in the other two where I know you write and honestly I would prefer to read your opinion and not only to look at your "nice" finds..

This might explain some of the beating...

HOLY BAJESUS! The E92 M3 looks like it's standing still compared to the M6. I was hoping it would be only a few car lengths behind. It was like 50 car lengths behind. Could hardly even see the headlights. That is super disappointing. How can a car destroy another car with only 80 less horsepower so bad. That's, like, wow. Am I missing something here? My 330i could keep up with the M6 as well as that E92 M3 did. Was the E92 M3 in limp mode or something?

Well, seen as the M6 BMW official 0-62 time is 4.6 seconds and the M3 is 4.8 I cant see there being a noticeable difference between them in reality.

I havent got the in gear times but bearing in mind the 80bhp or so difference along with 1655kg (M3) and 1785kg (M6 Coupe, ragtop is over 2000!!) weights I'll be happy to take an M6 on should I see one when Im in my M3.

Clearly this is either rigged or down to the driver.

FWIW

Not being a big fan of the M6 I can't pull a bunch of specs out of my head or from the net for it. I have posted below a quick simulation using CarTest of M3 vs. M6. Both 0-X and rolling starts are included. The M6 is heavier but still boasts a significantly better power to weight ratio. The 9.3 s 0-100 mph result from CarTest seems to match the 9.4 number I found with a quick i-search. These airfield tests are often these roll-ons and the CarTest results include such roll-ons. I think they typically go like 60kph - 250kph or so. The simulations do indeed show the M6 pulling consistently on and widening the gap consistently vs. the M3. Simulations show about a 85 foot gap at 150 mph (150 mph for the M6)!

The M3 M-DCT results however is a totally different story - pretty much neck and neck hanging with the M6! Some time to speed contests and some time to distance in favor of each car. Go M-DCT!

Well, having tested the M3 against an M6, that video was not representative. It took the M6 running at well over 120mph to pull away from the M3, and then only gradually. Someone must have missed a gear or forgot that the M3 revs to 8400rpm...

Like my simulation. Within about 1 second to 100 mph then the gap moves up to close to 3 seconds.

Yep, on the road there really was nothing between them. For an M6 to pull away from an M3 he'd have to be 'well' into license losing territory.

I've upset a few people before by mentioning that my AMG ML63 puts up a damm good fight against an M6. I had a 20 mile race against one in Italy last summer and it wasn't until we were well above 150mph that the M6 had pulled 100yds or so on my SUV, below 100mph I could pull ahead slightly and then hold it behind until wind resistance dealt the killer blow above 120mph. That's what 100lb/ft more torque can do for you...

I guess when you are wealthy, there are two ways you can make a contribution to the human race with the time you have in your hands:

1. Devote yourself to noble scholarly pursuits such as writing, arts, and/or science.

2. Devote yourself to noble motorsport pursuits such as racing and/or reporting for automobile publications.
