I just want to thank you for posting this as I'm heading to Italy at the end of August with layovers in Heathrow. I'll be sure to check the deals!

And to try and answer your question, when you buy liquor at Duty Free they will place it into a sealed plastic bag that you take on the plane with you. Some airlines require that it's given to the crew to pass out to you as you board.

Curious, did the price increase after it was mentioned in a rap song? That’s quite the stash, especially at $90-$100 per bottle.

Different airports do it differently. Some would give you the bottle in a sealed bag at the gate before you board. Some would just give that to you at cashier also in a sealed bag.

Some airports carry unique liquor that could be hard to find elsewhere. Value-wise, most of times are not cheaper.

I was flying back home last week and the DFS in HKG carries the new Hennessy XXO. Sales lady said it was just released few weeks ago and HKG is one of the very few place at the moment you can buy it and also lowest price.

Did not believe it and it was selling for around USD 550. Came home doing more researches and regretting not getting the bottle.

Do you have to declare the booze? I don't recall seeing booze as an item to be declared, but I may have missed it.

Anyone ever try this? I'm in the mood for rum on ice tonight and this is the best the local store carries. Just in case, I also grabbed a P12, of course.

Okay, the Bumbu is pretty good. Very smooth and sweet like butterscotch. Definitely good over ice on a hot summer night like tonight. TXSTYLE, I think you'd like it.

This is nice when you can get it, probably about $30 USD, easy drinking neat, also love me some Kirk and Sweeny 23 but tough to get so I use it sparingly.

I've tried the Kirk and Sweeney 23, and you're right, it's very good. Never seen the Pyrat. I'll keep an eye out for it. We're heading to Champaign tomorrow, so I'll grab some Plantation 20 for sure and look for the Pyrat. Rum on ice is my summer favorite.

Yes, buy in Heathrow, seller seals it in a bag, and carry on plane.

I believe you are allowed 2liters duty-free into US. (That's my standard each trip through LHR).

One important note: if you have another flight after entering US, then you MUST put the bottles into your checked luggage for next flight. Even if in sealed bag, TSA won't let you pass with your liquor.

It's gone up about $10 bucks over that span of time. I wouldn't say it has anything to do with meek. Surprised they haven't tried to capitalize more on that but glad to see it stay steady after all those years. I've been in the liquor business for 20 years things like Hennessy and remy go up every year. It's a joke and to the point where I really don't care to favor one brand over another anymore. At the end of the day they all sell.

Pyrat is definitely not what I would consider sipping rum. Has too much bite. Makes a great mixer though.
I've heard about the K&W. I'll try it.

I bought a bottle of Basil Hayden Darker Rye (or something like that) at Costco, but my son helped me unload the car and I can't figure out where he put it.

Spent quite a bit of time at BILIL's house. Put a lot of Grey Goose into bottles of Bai lemonade flavors. Was actually pretty good on a warm afternoon outside.

the last couple of times i've traveled internationally, i have been asked by the CBP agent if we had any booze. we usually one go with the 2 bottles per adult and i answer truthfully when asked. last trip through dublin, i ended up splurging and figure i might have to pay some taxes...however, the customs agent asked how many bottles and i answered "6"...three for each for my wife and me. agent simply took our declaration slips and wished us a safe flight.

honestly, i think they're only concerned if you're trying to bring back quantities that appear like you might want to re-sell them.

note: last trip we were finally approved for global entry...made that whole customs and immigration process so much less stressful!
